Default Suggested 1999-2004 Mustang Exhaust Upgrade?

I'm looking on AM and see there are a million routes to go when up'ing your exhuast system. TBH, I have not a clue to what each is.

What do you suggest:

Catback
Axelback
Midpipe
Header
Offset Muffler
One of those SLP "bullet/shotgun" mufflers
Catalyict convertors
Muffler Eliminator Pipes

And a brief explination of the first 4 is greatly appreciated

Thanks a lot

Cat-back system is an entire system that replaces everything after the catalytic converters. It includes the mufflers/resonators and tailpipes.

Axleback is just everything behind the axles. I think it only applies to the '05 and up models because their mufflers are after the axle...I think...

The midpipe is either an x-pipe, h-pipe, or prochamber. Also you can just go straight pipes without any type of crossover. An x-pipe will give a few more horses but will sound raspy. An h-pipe will give you a classic muscle car rumble sound. It also depends on which mufflers you choose.

Headers are either longtube or shorties. Longtubes are hard to install but will give a better horsepower gain than the shorties.

Depends on how much you have and want to spend, same for what kind of sound you are looking for. I have Bassani all the way from the front to the back and love it....but that costed 1800 bones with me installing it. if you can't install all that, your looking at 600-1000 bucks for install.

Short tubes are a waste of money, save, save save and get a full matching system BBK/ Mac/ Bassani...etc...from there you have a great platform for any other upgrade..also it will have the great sound so many guys/gals want

Thanks for the responses.

I was on AM and I liked the SLP LM (1 and 2) Catback. It's not to expensive and has a sick sound IMO.

I am an over the road truck driver and I drive an Enclosed auto transporter. The company I work for has the contract for SHELBY and I have hauled Super Snakes (Too quiet) KR's (Nice Sound) Ford GT super cars and just about any other car you can think of both Exotic and Domestic and the best sounding car I have hauled was a 2007 Ford mustang GT 500 with long tube Headers (Kook's) and Corsa Mufflers. That car sounded grrrrrrrrrreat and the second best sounding car had a cat back system on it from MRt in Plymouth, Mi With their Turbine mufflers and that car was an 08 Ford Mustang GT and it was a very close second. Those mufflers have a very simular design. In my opinion it's all in what you like and you may have to try a couple different type of mufflers to find what you like. I personally like the sound of the Magnaflows on my 03 Cobra. Good luck

Me personally, nothing beats the sound of a Bassani X-PIPE and Borla Stingers. This is EXACTLEY how my car sounds.

Whatever you choose, good luck!

After hearing those Cobra's, I regret selling mine. But I love our new cars. I plan on dropping in a GT 500 motor, once the bumper to bumper runs out, if I can wait that long.

I had Kooks full lenght headers, off road x-pipe, and flowmasters. Sounded like a beast. I absolutely loved it!

Oh no JD04! You traded! I'm thinking about either KB 2.6L, or Whipple 2.3L next year. However it all depends on what Ford is doing with this new 5.0L engine. I highly doubt its coming in 2011, maybe 2012 at the earliest. I'll pick up the next model Cobra; only if the Shelby name isn't on it.

Yeah, I put it on ebay. I really thought I would have a few days to think about or possibly even change my mind about selling it. I was wrong. I posted it on a Friday afternoon and it sold two hours later. I was completely shocked.

I seen a Kenne Bell add the other day and seen where a new blower is in the works. The new 3.6! If I stiil had my 04 I would go with either the KB 2.8 Mammoth or Whipple 3.4. If your going to spend the money, might as well go all out.
