Hey Everyone, I am cobraman08 and just joined. I look forward to talking and sharing ideas. If anyone can tell me what tool I need to use to get the clips off of the ends of the fuel filter it would be appreciated. I have a 1997 Mustang Cobra and am trying to replace the filter but don't want to break the end clips off.
if they are the clips with the triangle shaped tap you can just poop them out with screw driver,if the are the type that are on ac lines you need the tool any parts house should have one,the new fuel filter should come with new clips, you just install the clips in the lines with beveled side facing out and filter snaps in place,i usually spray a little silicone on the filter connections so it slides into the rubber seals that are installed in the line, hope this helps butch
I'd take it to a Mustang shop in your area and throw them some cash to install it for you, they are a MAJOR PITA even with the tool(you can get at autozone, Advance, etc..)!
Autozone sells the tool you need for $5-10 depending on the brand. With no IRS(I have a 99 Cobra) it's pretty easy. Make sure you depressurize the fuel system first. This is most easilly done by unhooking your fuel cut off switch in the trunk and then run the car til it stalls.
