Default Finally a 1998 Mustang Cobra owner!

Just got my 98 SVT cobra last week. An upgrade from my first car - 94 gt 'verte... Im 19 so this is like my dream car and Im in love with it already. A lot nicer and smoother ride from the GT. However I will miss the 5.0! I believe it's time for its first wash. Never had a black car any tips to keep it nice? I know black shows everything

Congrats..when the 96 cobra came out it was my "dream" car...it took a few years to get one, but I still have it and love it even after 8 years! Check out that Turtle Wax Clear wash and wax, works really good, you can use it in sunlight.

Want advise on keeping it clean, keep it in a garage and covered to keep the dust off. Any black car, is a very high maintenance car to keep clean. Mine aren't black, but they stay in a climate controlled garage and covered, Mike. SCT Tuner. P.S. Good Luck with it, and you'll take a liken to that 4 valve motor when you find out what it's capable of, Mike.

Congrats! I really like the 96-98 Cobras. I've always had black cars. High maintenance they are, but beautiful when clean. Also, the black ones are the fastest.

I have 2 black Mustangs. A 1996 Cobra and a 1998 GT. I use different products on both of them. The 1996 Cobra - the paint is flawless! I use Meguiars NXT generation car wash, then I only use microfiber towels to dry it. Then I use the Meguiars clay bar kit to remove contaminants. After that I put on Meguiars NXT generation tech wax 2.0. It has a very deep black shine. Then it gets put under a cover when it isn't being driven.
For my 1998 Mustang GT, I use Mothers products. I wash it with Mothers California gold car wash. Then I use the Mothers clay bar kit to remove contaminants. Finally, I apply Mothers Syn wax to protect the paint. I drive my 1998 GT everyday and never cover it. All of my friends say, "Man that car is so clean!"

So just remember these key tips to keep your Cobra clean:
1. Use microfiber towels to dry your car after washing it.
2. Never use cotton, terry, or microfiber applicator pads to apply wax or polish. It will cause swirl marks. Meguiars applicator pads are the best!
3. Never dust your car with a duster or cloth. It will drag the dirt and dust across the paint leaving swirls or small scratches in the clear coat.
4. Don't get to carried away with cleaning your car. Wash it every other week. Use a clay bar kit to remove contaminants if needed (do this at least once a year). And wax it once every 6 months.
Hope this helps!

Both Mothers and Mequiars lack the durability and flat out Insane Gloss shine of the Collinite 845!
Congrats on the 98, welcome to the SVT community!
