I bought this Cobra with 19000 miles on it about 2 weeks ago. The car is sound aside from the fact that I dont know weather its my clutch or tranni thats going out. Here is the problem.
The gears go in perfectly fine but I I start to get out of 1st and I hit the gas the RPM's go up but there is very little movement I have to let off the gas for it to start moving? Also while im driving if Im in 1st or 2nd so on and so on and I want to hit some gas once again the rpms go up but no power to the tires is this my clutch or my tranni? Please help.. I just bought a SPEC stage 2 clutch yeaterday and would hate for it to have been a waste if the clutch is not the prolem
Either the clutch is slipping when the power hits or your belt is slipping. check under the hood and see if you see any black powder on the idlers or on the pulley on the snout, if so, it could be belt slippage. If you don't see any black powder, then it could be your clutch is slipping.

I checked to see if there is any black powder and none.. My rpms go up as if Im accelertaing wich I am but no power to the wheels.. If I romp it then it does the same thing I will see the boost gage go up but right after I smell something burning is that the clutch?
get going in 1st then shift to 4th and mash it just to be sure.
it should slip like all get out oif its a bad clutch.
clutches arent that bad to do just dont forget
have flywheel blanched ( turned )
use BLUE loctite on the NEW flywheel bolts ( bolts are torque to yeild )
clean the flywheel ( new or reused ) with brake parts cleaner.

Yeah that sounds like your clutch is slipping, make sure when you get it pulled apart to check for a leak in the rear main seal, you might be getting oil on the clutch disc. Not trying to scare you but a Cobra clutch slipping at 19K miles is quite unusual!

I could be your clutch vs. your tranny. If it was your tranny you'd here grinding and such.
I burn out clutches every 2 years!! You'll see a lot of crap in your bell housing from the clutch when you pull your tranny and a lot of black suit. Those trannys can take alot of beatings~!

Don't go to a Ford dealer, they will bend you over for that repair...get the parts and have a good shop replace it for you...by the way you may want to add a Pro 5.0 shifter, that will help tremendously in shifting.

By the way if you do have it replaced by someone make sure they are credible. My girlfriends VW Bug's clutch went out a couple months ago and we hired Aamco to fix it... anyways BIG mistake. They forgot to put bolts in here and there and the thing ran like crap. They called us and told us it was done but the first time I fired it up it was making a VERY loud grinding noise. Moral of the story, get someone you trust to fix it!
