Both are very strong and can take a lot of abuse. The bonus to a 9 inch is the removable carrier so you can swap gears outside of the car or if you already have an extra third member with gears you can throw it in and go. 9 inch would probly take a bit more work due to the fact most of them came in vehicles with leaf springs...
I would stick to the 8.8 since you can really beef them up. If you were going to create a sick track monster, i would go with the 9 to play around with the gear sets like mentioned.

thanks for the help i talked to my auto tech professor and he said the 9 would be better also but im having trouble finding the demensions for the 8.8 cuz id rather not have to cut the 9 so im tryin to find the rear end thats be the closest match and finding one could be a b**** also because i dont know all the models that be the best to look for
I think 8.8 will handle up to 650hp, it's the axles and such that might need some attention

thanks and its a 2000 for the guy who was asking but thanks again for all the input but i found out my rear end is only a 7.5 because its a v6 so im trying to find the lengths and dimensions of the rear end???? so i can even think of getn a 9" and im still trying to decide weather or not 8.8 or 9 would be better it depends on how much time and effort i wanna put in to the rear end but again thanks
Unless you are planning some serious mods to your engine/output just leave the stock rear end in...maybe some new gears, but to swap to anything bigger behind a stock V6 is a waste of money.
