Alright, so I finally got my 5.0 fixed because I got rear ended in February and the insurance company just got around to repairing it (Please don't get me started on the insurance company, I could go on forever) and during this 7-8 month period I have been looking for an 03 04 Cobra. This is of course after I sell the 5.0, so probably in the next couple of months. The 03- 04 Cobra is such a beast and I've wanted one forever and the time is getting closer.
But, recently a buddy of mine picked up an SRT8 300C for 19k with less then 30,000 miles on it. I got a ride in that thing, and it is quick plus has tons of features! I've done more and more research on these SRT8 cars and the more I'm starting to like it. Now I'm torn between the two! I love the Cobra but some features of the Magnum SRT8 have me thinking.
Heres the pros and cons of both: (keep in mind this will be my only car)
Cobra Pros: Super quick, insane potential with little cash, shorter wheelbase, manual, a little better mileage
Cobra Cons: Might as well be 2 seater, dated interior, could get me in more trouble : (
SRT8 Pros: Still very quick, seats 4-5 very comfortably, more luggage room, better for traffic, lots of features, newer and just as cheap
SRT8 Cons: Big car, less future potential, NOT A FORD MUSTANG, little higher insurance
Well there you have it... Both cars it seems like I could pick up just under $20,000 for one with less then 50K miles.
Please can someone talk some sense into me! Thanks!
I gotta tell you, I have a 340 hp Infiniti M45 4 door, and for everyday driving I really prefer it, it's so smooth and fast and not to mention better in any inclimate weather or traffic jam, so at this point if you can only have one car I might vote for the SRT....thank goodness I paid off my Cobra years ago and was able to keep it when I bought my M45...and by the way you might test drive one of those new M45s, they are super fast and well rated by car mags

I didn't buy my Cobra for rear seats, features, more luggage room, better for traffic. I bought my Cobra because alot of other cars tremble with fear when I pull up. How many people tremble with fear at a 300 C? Plus how much will a 300 C be worth in 20 years?

Hey Mike you're missing the gist of the question, this is more about practicality... a 20 year old cobra will probably be worth what a 20 year old 300 C would be...basically nothing, no mass produced car from 1989 is valuable, so don't think in 2029 things will be different: buying a car as an investment is a terrible idea.

I have an 03 cobra convertible and a wife and 2 kids, 10 and 8 and they all love it, wife is not to crazy about the Bassani, or when she can hear the supercharger with the kids in the car. They are more than comfortable in it and we drive it alot. Hope this helps!

Please, they only made 38 Cobras in my trim. They only made like 8000 in 99. GT's, V6's yeah, maybe the point is valid, but not for Cobras. He didn't mention anything about "needing" to be practical. IMO 300C's are ugly. All new Mopar is ugly with exception of the new Challenger. The nostagia of the mustang and Cobra is going to make it worth 100's of time more than any SRT8. He should buy whatever he wants but like another poster said, you're going to get a very bias opinion on here. Also I wonder how many people in 1976 said that a 1967 GT fastback will be worthless in 20 years. So the buying a car as an investment is dumb? I would love a nice 67 fastback right now. Straight 67 fastback shells are going for $8-$10k, and restored, well the sky's the limit.

when he said that I thought he meant as far as kids or people sitting in the back. My ten year old boy will not hardley ride in any other car, he thinks it is baddddd!!!!!!!!!!

I definitely hear you guys and I love mustangs I really do! Right now since I'm young (only 21) I live in an apartment complex and so I can only have one car. No other parking! That being said, I have to drive in traffic for 15- 30 minutes and with the current 5.0 that I got right now its not the most fun (5 speed manual car). I would love to have the Cobra for main reason that nothing can touch it! Thats the only reason I was considering get the MAGNUM SRT8 not the 300C.
My brother got a 2004 GMC 2500 Diesel about 6 months ago and my mouth has been watering ever since! I would get one of those but they are even more! He runs 12.5 in the quarter with only a tuner and a built tranny.
Well thanks for your input guys! I'm going to test drive both cars and see which one better suits me.
