I tried it and for one, there are no exposed connector pins behind the trunk panel as decribed. I then tried the method decribed in this post and it worked perfectly.
I can add something... Both of my keypads stopped working within a few months of eachother. Six years on a battery isn't bad by the way! I reprogrammed one pad and waited untill the next day to take my other pad out and do it. When I programmed the second pad, the first one quit working!
This might be obvious to some but as a casual backyard mechanic like myself, I assumed it downloaded a set code from the cars computer instead of generating a new random code each time. If you have multiple keypads you need to do them both in the same programming cycle.
Thank you for the information, it just saved me nearly enough money to put sequential tail lights in! Actually I am going to sell this 99 and the keypads were the only thing not working so no flashy tail lights for it... maybe the next owner.
