i have a 98 Cobra that i just bought, and one of the mods that it has on it from the ower before me is a short throw shifter. What does this do?

It allows quicker and shorter shifts. Not to mention shorter in height too. It also protects the shift forks from being bent(from over extending of the stock shifter). The shifts will be much smoother(mainly due to the lack of a rubber bushing that is on the stock shifter where it bolts into the base of the shifter).

Hope this helps.

Should there be increased shifter noise with an aftermarket shifter? I have the pro 5.0 and i used rubber gasket for the base instead of the sealant.......has more vibration and humming than the stock shifter..............is this normal?

After-market shifters usually have more increase noise than stock. One reason is there's no rubber in between the shifter handle to soak up the vibration, but makes the shifting action more precise and less sloppy.

Default t-56 transmission

T-56 transmissions have a problem with gear noise. Just turn up the radio and go full throttle.
