Default question for all you 03/04Cobra owners

Im in the market for an 04 Cobra. What's all this s**t im hearing about over heating problems .
I dont want to get it if my car spends more time at the dealer getting warranty work on it.
Please give me some feedback. I hate overheating problems, it worry the s**t out me.

The only problem my Cobra has had is the stall. Potentially dangerous if and when it stalls but Ford has a fix for it. I had my dyno tuner fix my stall issue but other than that, I've been lucky, no problems to report. Just remember, you never hear the good things, only the bad.

Cool From my observations .... not a FORD issue

The overheating issue is specific to modified cars.

Pullied (2.8) cars seemed ... prone to the problem.

STOCK no probs.

yet.

I've beened modded (read: pullied) since about week two of owning this Cobra and not a single overheat problem. I have yet to read where a pullied car caused a car to overheat though an overspun Eaton will definitely become a heaton. Obviously I could be wrong but those I've read about have been stock. Regardless, try a search over at svtperformance.com. That site has much more info on the 03/04 Cobra than this site will ever have.

Cool If haven't searched already ...

True. REF. 1 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. very good reference 7. 8.Possible trend???? 9. 10. Lastly .... 11.

As you can surmize the problem is tough to define with so many modded cars. I've seen very few stck cars complain on any board

There is one guy on this board that has been fighting a really bad overheating problem but it seems to be specific to his car and not an epidemic of all the SC Cobras. There is one cooling issue that the Cobra has always had and that is air pockets in the cooling system. It's usually not a problem until you've drained your coolant for the first time and Ford has made a few changes to help reduce the problem. I wouldn't let these few fluke problems keep me from buying the car if I was in the market, though.

I have a 04 cobra mystichrome. I just ran it at willow springs raceway in 105-110 deg weather. The car did really well. I only saw the temp come up one time and that was because I was running out of gas. I love the car. I think that you will find problem cases in any type of car on the market.

Buy the Cobra. it kicks butt!!!

The 04 Cobra's are overheating because the cooling system hose clamps are breaking and then the coolant leaves the system. The Cobra engine is hard to get the air out of the system. I know this because I'm the SVT tech at the dealership I work at.

I have heard about the issue on other boards, so far I do not see a problem with the stock 04 with 530 miles on it. If there are issues concerning the roots type supercharger it may be related to amount of boost the blower is operating at. There are many factors that will cause heating issues. Type of oil used, fuel mixture, etc.... If you start to run lean you will get higher temps. Making mods without adjusting the fuel mixture will cause some issues.

My first mod was a preventative, by adding water wetter to both the coolant and intercooler tanks. That is supposed to improve heat transfer as well as prolong coolant life and reduce corrosion. Also, when changing the coolant, you need to bleed the air out which takes a few hours.
