That's right...I broke my cherry on a drag strip today. I've been to a few events but have never actually run down the 1/4 mile myself until today
I was really hoping for a 12 sec. time slip, and probably could have managed one with a few more passes, but alas, it was not to be
Best run was a 13.18 at 108 with 22 lbs. in the stock F1's, about a half a tank of gas, and granny-shifting the whole way. I don't know the exact weather #s but it was in the middle of the day and it was fairly hot outside. The car is still bone-stock down to the factory paper filter.
This thing is a b***h to launch! Starting anywhere from 3,000 rpm down bogs the car and at 3,500 or so it just lights the hides up. I need to practice the launch so I can get my 60' times down (60' for my best run was 2.17, yuck).
I'm sure there is a 12.9 or better in there but I'm not sure if I can wait. I want some drag radials in a bad way now (this stuff is addicting)

Sounds like you had a blast. Next time bang the hell out of the gears! Godd luck!

nice run. sounds like those 12s are just around the corner. drag radials and some forceful shifting. maybe a CAI might be a good purchase for you as well, or at least a k&n replacement filter. good luck

Drag radials on some new wheels are definitly on the wish list. I'm really thinking hard about getting in on the Tri-Ax group buy also and practicing my shifting ability with a new shifter.
I did learn a little about power shifting though- the reason why I quit for the day was because on my last two passes the throttle stuck to the floor somewhere in the middle of the run. When I got to the traps the car just kept going
I put it in neutral and the poor thing just started bouncing off the rev-limiter like a crazed animal and I had to kill the ignition and coast to a stop. Both times the pedal had gotten stuck under the carpet (not the floor mat) and was wedged in there good enough I had to get out of the car and crawl under the dash to fix it
I decided it was time to leave until I trimmed up the carpet a bit. Anyhow, I was essentially powershifting on at least one of those runs (it stuck early on the first one) and it wasn't any faster than my fastest run, so I think I'll leave power-shifting out of the equation. Lifting the throttle about halfway on each shift seemed to work just as well.

yeah Vet, I am in on the Steeda Tri-ax buy... the more the merrier.
I am looking forward to the new shifter!
Is it posted here somewhere? If it isn't, can we/should we post it?

I'd work on your launch, a good hard launch means a lot. Once you have that down then work on powershifting.
My first few runs were 14+ =(
I am down to a consistant 13.25 with a good solid launch and quick powershifting. I could probably drop that to an average 13.20 with a good quality shifter.
I did run a 12.98.... once, never before or never since have I sniffed it again. Perfect weather, perfect hook up, and near perfect shifts. I dont claim it since I cant reproduce it. Everyone was running fast that day too, so its not like it gained me much.
Anyhow my point is you can drop anywhere from a half second to a full second off your times just learning how to drive it down the track. You should hit mid 12's if you can get that thing to hook up and some practice. Oh and of course some good rubber. =)

I've read that the gas pedal getting stuck under the carpet has happened to quite a bit of 03/04 Cobra owners. I think I read this on svtperformance.com I believe. I've checked mine and it looks good.
Those are some impressive stock dyno #'s on your Cobra

wait till you pully the car, you wont get traction in 1st 2nd and smetimes 3rd...
Marc
Got a couple questions for you- What is your traction like with the drag radials and how do you launch your car with them? Also, did you have to do any suspension mods for wheelhop during the burnout or on the launch?
