Hey Stormsigma,
I'm disappointed to hear of the responses you get. Granted, I only own a GT (a Cobra is in my future, I just know it) but I give the thumbs up or wave to every Mustang I see regardless of the model, with the following exceptions; Riced out Mustangs or beaters. The ricers for the obvious reason (lack of taste) and the beaters cuz I know they are probably owned by people that view a car as only transportation.
As others writers have mentioned, maybe it is where you live. I know up here in KY with several Mustang car clubs in the area, people with good looking cars show their repsect to others with good looking cars. I do have another theory for you though, it seems several of the people I've run across with higher than a GT look down on us poor folk who can't afford to go higher up the 'food chain'. There's a dude I see frequently with a Roush that ALWAYS has to rev it up whenever we see each other, like he has something to prove. Hey, I know his '02 Roush could stomp my old '94 GT with 153K on the odo, so what is the point?!? I'd like to tell him sometime, 'save your gas, your car could kill mine hands down'. Although, I would like to point out to him that my old '94 doesn't look like any other Mustang out on the road that I've ever seen, unlike his Roush, which basically looks like every other red '99+ Roush I've seen.
Anyway, enjoy your Cobra and don't let others bring you down. Give 'em a wave or a thumbs up and if they don't do the same in kind...oh well.
Happy Motoring,
MrMustang1
Sorry to tell you dude but if you ain´t anything to look at the chicks will not dig you. I actually started a conversation with a hottie in a v6 mustang. By the way if you are not looking for a date just nod at the guys. Just makes sense.

I ride a 02 gt and also a 05 v6 I will wave nod or thumbsup any other mustang driver unless I'm lost in a day dream and do not notice you............always been a stang lover and will die a stang lover...............come on up to Maine we wave to everyone up this way...........................
Heh, Storm, I live in Orlando too and I NEVER get a wave. I always wave, and I never got a wave back, so I thought it was because I was in a V6, but it's not just a stock V6, so I'd figure I'd get some respect. My step-dad has a Corvette, and they ALL wave when they see eachother, so I thought it'd be pretty cool if all the stangs did it too. Evidently they don't, maybe it IS just where we live. Sucks

Yup... he's right. But to own a vette is totally different because if you spend that much money for a car it's definetly something you love and are proud to be a part of. I own an 06' vette and make it's almost a natural reaction to not just wave but also honk to acknowledge another vette. Someone mentioned earlier that maybe some stang owners don't wave back because they might be intimidated by a cobra and think that their V6 is just another car, probably the case. But as long as you get the waves and acknowldgment from the other cobras, and most of the GT's it's should be all good, someone driving a Cobra or other top end car like a Vette or Camaor SS definetly doesn't think it's just another car.
It has to be the area, I live up near Detroit and no matter what type of muscle car I wave give a small nod and even sometimes talk. Some people look at me and notice that I am only 19 and just pass on by, but when you find someone looking at your car and you do the same it is a good feeling. I guess you just have to look and see who you are dealing with. It's ashame that it has to get to that.
I can relate to mrmustang1 as I have lived on both sides of the fence. I used to own a 2000 GT. When I had the chance, I waved at fellow Mustang drivers although I didn't get much in return.... Some STANG drivers praised me for the colour of my STANG; Sunbusrt Gold Clear coat. If I couldn't wave, there is one rule I always abide by; never try to embarass another STANG driver whether it was a LX, GT, or Cobra.
There's nothing to prove by beating a V6, racing another GT, or losing to a Cobra. With that being said, I never get the same respect in return. Other Mustang drivers (younger crowd) are always out to prove their Mustang is better then yours.... They burn rubber, rev their engines, and I act like I don't see them......
Today, I own a 04 Cobra. I still hold true to my oath, never race another Mustang no matter what the model; unless its a frienldly race. Cobra's do garner much more attention.
During my morning commute in my 2000 Mustang GT, I always ended up passing a C6 Corvette driver going in the opposite direction in local traffic. The guy wears a pair of shades, and is probably in his mid to late fiftys. He never once glanced at my GT when I drove by. If he did, I never knew because of his eyes behind the shades. Now that I own a Cobra, when I pass by, his whole head turns to look. I also get more "thumbs up" from GT, and LX drivers. The Cobra is definetly top DAWG! Motor trend clocked it at 0 - 60 in 4.5 seconds, and a 12 second quarter mile at 111MPH.
I believe people are threatened when they see someone driving another Mustang, be it a LX, GT, or Cobra; or any other car for that matter. There's always something to prove; my car is better then yours even if we have the same model. When people have this type of attitiude, you'll never get any LOVE.
Those that are for the LOVE of Mustangs will wave back, and show appreciation!
Well, not all of them, but it got your attention, right?
Good, because I have a question for you newer Cobra drivers. Do you guys ever notice how the drivers of other Mustangs don't wave or nod back when you do it to them, like at a light or wherever?
For the past three years, I've been an F-body guy. I bought a Camaro Z28, and when I drove it, I started making a point to nod or wave at other F-body drivers. Didn't matter what it was, older Camaros/Firebirds, newer ones, V6 models, other Z's, SS's, even WS-6's. And 99% of the time, I'd get a grin and a thumbs up or some other friendly gesture in return.
But in the last five days of owning this new Cobra, I've noticed one thing.
Mustang people don't have that same camraderie.
I live in Orlando, FL and there are hundreds and hundreds of Mustangs on the road here. We have a few different dealerships who deal exclusively in Steeda, Saleen, and Roush models among other things. So, I've seen quite a few other Stangs driving around. So, I started doing the same thing I'd done before, namely wave, or nod, or give a thumbs up or whatever. And in return?
Well, let's see. The V6 Stang drivers all frown at me, and drop back in traffic. The GT, Bullit, and Mach 1 drivers all stonily glare at me and either try to gun it and do a ricer fly-by, or else they also drop back or change lanes. One girl was driving a Roush Mustang and had her windows down, I drove up, yelled out "Awesome Roush"(she had her window down), and I got an eye-roll and she rolled her window up. Oddly enough, the only other people who've been cool? OTHER COBRA OWNERS.
Guys, I'm not trying to hate on people. I just want to know what's up with these folks and if I'm alone in this sort of experience. I mean, I don't really run 'er hard in traffic, I'm just cruising along. I'm not trying to tease the slower cars, I'm just frickin' happy I own a Mustang, and want to let other Mustang owners know their cars are cool too, no matter WHAT model it is.
A friend of mine suggests it's because I own the top model, but I think that's an arrogant idea.
I don't know, I guess I just wanted Mustang guys to be like F-body guys.
You do realize that Mustangs far outnumber the other
"pony" cars right???
That means more chances to run into jerks, or coool people.
I wave, it's seldom returned. I keep waving anyway.

I find this to be true with ALL vehicles where I live. I moved up from Oklahoma where folks waved at each other all the time. Heck, I drove a pickup and waved to other pickup drivers all the time and they ALWAYS waved back. But up here (New Hampshire) when you wave to anyone they look at you like “Who do YOU think you are waving to?!?!” or they simply ignore you.
I have to admit that I have stopped waving to folks.
I save my “nice car” to intersections when stopped or at the gas pump. Gas pumps for some reason seems to be “the place” to chat about cars and have folks actually be “nice” to you.
Maybe it is just a cultural thing? I know folks are more closed up here, but come on….. It is funny how just saying something nice to someone or making a passing comment first seems to surprise folks, and then they open up with smiles and conversation back. So maybe the road waves are simply because you can’t “say” much to them or give an easily recognizable smile? Who knows…
Oh…. Happy New Year and may your travels be safe and “uneventful”.

keep in mind, the V6 Mustang is Fords #1 selling vehicle. all walks of life could own one. the happy, the depressed, the single, the married, the young, the old. everyone. it is a car for everyone.
I only wave to the Stangers that look like they take care of their car.

I don't always wave, but I do notice the nice ones and give a nod. More people notice me when I'm in my sons 93 lightning, it is loud and fast as my Cobra. I love old mod mustangs and always get a wave back from them. I get waves from other mustang owners too. I wave if I see them, but I don't always wave because Vegas drivers ussually wave with the middle finger. LOL
Well, not all of them, but it got your attention, right?

I noticed it back in 2001 when I sold my Camaro and bought my first 'stang. Trust me, you're not the only one who's noticed. When I had my Camaro (a rather pathetic little V6/automatic base-model coupe the color of vanilla ice cream, but hell, I was 17 and it was an awesome car for a kid my age at the time!) I got waves, nods, thumbs up, etc. from any and all Camaro owners out there. On cruise nights on Valley Mills Drive in Waco, Texas, all of us F-body owners took over the Hastings parking lot and got together and had a great time, then we'd go pick on Mustang owners, which was always easy, because even though they had us slightly outnumbered, no more than 2 or 3 of them would ever hang out together! lol.
Mustang guys don't seem to be nearly as tightly-knit a brotherhood, hell, the whole time I had my 5.0GT 'vert, no Mustang owner ever gave a thumbs-up, a wave, nothing, they all just wanted to race it or insult it for one reason or another. Didn't matter, the vast majority were V6 cars that I laid waste to rather easily, but still, it really sucks compared to owning a Camaro... if the hood went up on my Camaro on cruise night, I always had a compadre show up in a heartbeat (yeah, and all the Mustang guys just think that's part of an old advertising slogan) to help out. In my Mustang the last time I took it??? Got passed by dozens of Mustangs, but one of my old Camaro buddies that recognized ME stopped to help! lol
So no, you're not imagining it man, it's different.
