Well, not all of them, but it got your attention, right?
Good, because I have a question for you newer Cobra drivers. Do you guys ever notice how the drivers of other Mustangs don't wave or nod back when you do it to them, like at a light or wherever?
For the past three years, I've been an F-body guy. I bought a Camaro Z28, and when I drove it, I started making a point to nod or wave at other F-body drivers. Didn't matter what it was, older Camaros/Firebirds, newer ones, V6 models, other Z's, SS's, even WS-6's. And 99% of the time, I'd get a grin and a thumbs up or some other friendly gesture in return.
But in the last five days of owning this new Cobra, I've noticed one thing.
Mustang people don't have that same camraderie.
I live in Orlando, FL and there are hundreds and hundreds of Mustangs on the road here. We have a few different dealerships who deal exclusively in Steeda, Saleen, and Roush models among other things. So, I've seen quite a few other Stangs driving around. So, I started doing the same thing I'd done before, namely wave, or nod, or give a thumbs up or whatever. And in return?
Well, let's see. The V6 Stang drivers all frown at me, and drop back in traffic. The GT, Bullit, and Mach 1 drivers all stonily glare at me and either try to gun it and do a ricer fly-by, or else they also drop back or change lanes. One girl was driving a Roush Mustang and had her windows down, I drove up, yelled out "Awesome Roush"(she had her window down), and I got an eye-roll and she rolled her window up. Oddly enough, the only other people who've been cool? OTHER COBRA OWNERS.
Guys, I'm not trying to hate on people. I just want to know what's up with these folks and if I'm alone in this sort of experience. I mean, I don't really run 'er hard in traffic, I'm just cruising along. I'm not trying to tease the slower cars, I'm just frickin' happy I own a Mustang, and want to let other Mustang owners know their cars are cool too, no matter WHAT model it is.
A friend of mine suggests it's because I own the top model, but I think that's an arrogant idea.
I don't know, I guess I just wanted Mustang guys to be like F-body guys.

Hey man, Thats pretty wierd, maybe its just where your from. I live in Surrey BC Canada, I don't drive a Mustang, but my buddy does and we always go cruising. Every mustang he sees he waves/nods too and they do it back. I even get a few waves from mustang guys in my 91 Explorer when i give them a thumbs up or something (savin up for 69 mustang). But ya man thats really weird. Congrats on the new cobra though! :thumbsup
I think it's where you live and the fact that there are hundreds and hundreds of Mustangs on the road. Not every Mustang owner is an enthusiast. To many it's just another car. I was born and raised in Orlando when it was just a sleepy little town. I left in August of 1971 before Micky Mouse opened and ruined a quality of life forever. I hate like hell to go near the place now. A majority of people are from somewhere else and it seems that half of the rest don't speak English. I live in Brevard County and get waves and looks from fellow Mustang drivers and admiring glances from people in other types of cars. In Orlando follks are just passing through.
Sad!
Hey Storm, I agree with ya, I have owned my '05 mustang for 3 weeks now and logged over 1000 miles on it and other Mustang owners here don't even give you a second look. Thats one thing i liked about owning a motorcycle is the respect you would recieve from other bikers.......Oh well!!!
Sorry to hear that. I dont have a Cobra I have a GT but Im always friendly to other Mustangs regardless of which model, as a matter of fact im friendly to Vettes, Camaro's, TA's pretty much any muscle.
I think some one mentioned before that it could be where you live and the fact that the Mustang is such a common car that its not just for the enthusist any more. Anybody that wants to look sporty and fast buys one now, not like the old days were it was generally only a certain crowd driving them. (and the Comaro and TA's)
Im sure youll find a nice owner eventually, they cant all be that bad in Florida.

I think that may be it..."Not every Mustang owner is an enthusiast." And in return they might think your waving at someone else since it's just another car to them? Just guessing. Don't let that get you down...keep enjoying that Cobra.

Or something like that. To be concise, you don't need a different car, you need a different address. The locale you're in is one of the most artificial cultures on the planet. The fellow who spoke of how it has changed in the past few decades is dead on.
If you can't move, I suggest you join as many of the local Mustang Clubs as you can find (I think there are at least 4 in your local area), and check out the local cruize scene. Keep being friendly with your fellow stangers, too. Its the right thing to do, and sometimes we need to do the right thing even when its not appreciated, because it IS the right thing to do. (I have a neighbor who has stonily watched me wave at him for 22 years without response - by this time, its become something of a ritual...)
I'll also note that most older V-6 mustangs are not owned by enthusiasts (there are exceptions, of course, but I believe this to be generally the case).
If you come up to north Georgia and see a tripleblack stang with stalker kit and I don't wave back, you have my permission to shake my shoulder and wake me up (or call the coroner, 'cause I'm dead).
I appreciate everyone's response here. It re-encourages me to keep on keeping on, because it's nice to know that there ARE good people who drive Mustangs out there, even if they aren't directly around me.
I understand that it might seem wishy-washy to want people to appreciate their cars enough to like the fact that I appreciate 'em too, but hey, oh well, right?
I like F-bodies, and I like Mustangs. They're both domestic performance, and with that, you can never go wrong.
I wave at every Mustang owner, the only ones that dont wave back, 18-25 yr old females in a V-6 or 4 banger. Every other Mustang drive I ecounter appreciates the Mustang "family".

The females that you are refering to probably think you're trying to pick them up so you can jump their bones (LOL).

I own a 05 Mustang, Jeep and a motorcycle. I have always seen the wave and or nod while on either my bike or jeep but I have never seen anyone wave at another mustang. I guess I will start waving here in Norfolk and see what happens.
