Default 1998 SVT Cobra: price and problems?

Hi all, I'm looking for a little advice from Cobra owners. There's a '98 SVT Cobra for sale about 5 hrs drive from me. Before I make the trip to check it out, I was wondering what would be a reasonable price to pay for one, and if there are any particular problems to look out for. The asking price is $12000 US, by the way.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info. I'm actually in Canada, but I gave the price in US dollars, as I figure most people here are from the US.

I'm not really in the position to "fly in, drive home", as I will never buy a used car without actually seeing it, touching it, and driving it. I can justify the driving time and 60 or 70 bucks of gas to check a car out, but not the price of a plane ticket, rental car, etc etc. (plus all the hassles of trying to import a car from the US, in my case).

Thanks for the response, though... I'm not dead set on a Cobra, I'll take a nice GT if I can find a clean one, but the extra ponies of the Cobra are definitely a draw.

Since the price may be a little high, I'll wait to see if anything pops up a little closer to home.

Have to agree w/you - there are SO MANY cars out there; some careful research will turn up something really sweet. If I was starting over I'd have bought a 4-valve car. Shopping for a car is such a pain & time consuming.

I've seen really nice '98 Cobra's around by me with low mileage (30-40K miles) for around $9,000-9500. I was so tempted to scoop one up, but trying to save some cash.

I just got my 99 cobra 6 months ago for 13K . I looked at a 97 and 98 cobra before I got this one and they wanted around 12K for them . and the 99-01 cobra's have a little extra HP over the 97s. You have to try and find them online. I found about 6 in my area online one day but I forgot the website. decent cobra's get sold fast . good luck with your search.
