For fun, I would like to propose a letter writing campaign to request Car & Driver to test the Charger SRT-8 vs. the GT500 head to head, at Grattan. Throw in the GTO and the CTS-V as well. All are excellent cars but here is why:
The SRT-8 BEAT the GT500 around Grattan, running a 1:32.65 vs. the GT500's 1:33.30 in the 7/06 issue. C&D wrote, "But it rained the night before......and we'd be willing to bet our own dough that the GT500 would be faster than the Charger if we tested both on the same day." But let's see a test, right?!?
I say we submit the following to: editors@CARandDRIVER.com (note changed for the Mustang owner benefit).
"As a Mustang owner, I agree the SRT-8 would be beaten by the GT500 around Gratten and I would like to request a head to head test to prove it. Also, please include the GTO (6spd) AND the CTS-V Cadillac. There is a now a HUGE rivalry with these American Hot Rods and a head-to-head test is greatly needed to prove the GT500 would win at a road course!"
Thank you!
I emailed them already, as did some Charger owners.
I would like to see a comparison of the SRT-8 and the GT 500 as well as the regular Hemi version compared to the Mustang GT. It would show the top of each car line as well as the ones that are more likely to meet up on a drag strip.
If it is true that the GTO is cancelled, I do not think C&D would waste their time on a car that will not be in production in a year. Since C&D also likes to compare cars with similar price points, I think the CTS - V would not work either. That is why I like the comparisons I mentioned first - even if the Hemi charger does cost a bit more.

I'm very biased with magazines, I basically dont belive what i read all the time. Anyways, we should host a track meet between Mustangs and dodge cars at the race track one day. Maybe a drag shootout, then a technical track another day. I can already see the drags are domiated with mustangs and GM cars, but very little from mopar...thats just what i've seen in my local track. It would be fun to see this from average owners and drivers with thier cars and you get real world results vs. pro drivers with optimal conditions.

That would be fun too. But write them anyway!
Unfortunately DC only recently came out w/ a rear-drive car worthy of the strip that sells in volume (yes, I know about the SRT-4) but even then it's too heavy. Just look at the years of Stangs and F-bodies and that's why they show up at the strip.
