Coming from someone who just went through this dilemma...get the Shelby if you can. It is in an entirely new league of car in terms of the driving experience. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my '03 and will be more sad to see it go than any other car I have sold before, but the Shelby is just incredible.

What makes the Shelby better than the Cobra? Hows the suspension feels?
I test drove my friends Cobra the other day & my wife like how the IRS feels compare to my old 96 Cobra Solid rear axle.
I have just recently came to this same decision. My wife and I both love my 04' but I have to say it was love at first sight with Shelby. Our plan is sell the 04 and wait close to a year and get a 08 Shelby. By that time we will 10-15k to put down. Also the bike will also be paid off. That is the plan, only time will tell.

Hi JD, not a bad plan I must say. How much do you expect to get/sell your Cobra for?
Wouldn't you guys be nervous about buying a used '04?
I mean it's pretty rare that a person would baby a Cobra.
I guess I'm one of the few. I aim to baby my car by not driving it hard. Most of the time, I am just crusing. Rarely do I get into street races; and thats a good thing for me!!! Like most of us, I store the vehicle in the winter.
My company works on all the mustangs. We do Motor mods, exterior, etc... I own a 03 Cobra with 18K miles on it. Has a ton of mods & will scoot. But rarely drive it. We've worked on the new Shelby's by doing pulley changes, intake swaps, increasing boost, etc..
If you get the 04 Cobra, then put in the bolt on mods, you can get more HP than the New Shelby for less money than the cost of the new car. I like them, but wouldn't get one. Just personal feeling.
I do have a friend with a 03/04 Triple Black Cobra Conv. with around 13K miles on it. Virgin stock. Sits in garage. For sale for around 28K
He also owns a 2005 C6 Vette he's selling. Getting rid of his toys. Life change I guess.

Seriously. You can't go wrong either way. Both are freakin wonderful!
(My money would be on the Shelby GT500 though. so much potential in that car, and I prefer the S197 body.)

It has 11k. My mods are in my sig. except that I also have put on a set of Foose wheels. 18x8.5 front and 18x10 rear. They are mounted on BFG KDW 2's. The wheels are Foose Nitrous. They look great if I must say so.
buy the 04 and sell it if/when the Shelby does get down to MSRP.
you can enjoy the 04 now and the Shelby later. and don't let a one time track appearance in the Cobra scare you off. people do worse things on the street in those cars. and it has 8k miles on it. that is really reallly low mileage for a car that is practically 3 years old.
I made a mistake when I started this thread, it's an 03 10th year Anniversary instead of 04.. I finally test drove it last weekend, its reading 9k mile.. Me & my wife almost nutted on it, well I almost nuuted on it LOL . I havent drove a RWD V8 for almost 2 years now. The power was intimidating but intoxicating, know what I mean..
As for buying it & selling to get the Shelby when it gets down to MSRP, I think i just convinced the wife last night But I have to sell the ITR
Well me and the wife have changed our minds yet again. We have decided to keep our 04'. I just could not bring myself to sell it. Besides I love this car. It runs like a bat of hell and looks good to boot.
Dude No Question, Go For The Shelby, Drive It Summers, Weekends Only And In About Thirty Years It Will Be Worth Double It's Money. They Are Only Putting The Shelby Name On These For A Couple Years, Buy One When You Can.
I drive an enclosed car carrier and the company have the contract for the SHELBY KR's and SUPER SNAKES I can email you picures of me and my transporter loading both cars. The SHELBY GT500'S are coming down. If you look on ebay you can find dealers all over the country seling them. It depends how rare of a SHELBY you are looking for with the black with red stripes being the most rare. I have an 03 cobra which is bad ass, but If you own an 07 or newer you always have the option to get converted to a 40th anniversary or the super snake. What ever choice you make it won't be a bad choice. One question, Are you going to make any modifications and if so what kind? Oh yeah, I travel all over the country so I can let you know where to find some good deals if you're serious. Happy hunting
