Well my old mustang was just totaled due to some s**thead that can't drive... it was only a v6 but I loved it. Theres pictures of it on my photobucket account. In Mustang theres pictures of the car, and in Mustang RIP pictures of the damage if anyone wants to check them out.
But anyways, to get to the point, I have always wanted a Cobra. I loved driving my v6 and I eventually wanted to put lots of money into to make it run with you guys, but never got the chance. My uncle has a '04 Cobra and I LOVE driving it, and I would love to have one... but I probably can't afford it. I figured since I'm going to have to find a new car anyways, now would be a good time to get one. But like I said, the Terminators are a little out of my price range, so I was thinking about trying to find a '97 or '98. What do you guys think about them? Good cars? I know they're not as fast a the '03's, but If I get a '97 or '98 I may have a little money to put into some engine work. So any advice, suggestions?
What's your budget? You can find the 96-98's for decent prices now and they give you more power than the new edge GT's, so go for it. Once I get the issues worked out in my car (clutch, O2 sensors), I'll finally be able to enjoy it maybe.
Sorry to hear about your car. I know it sucks when it happens, but it happens for a reason-to get a Cobra!!!!!! Maybe you can sell some parts off of it.
My budget's is gonna be somewhere between 12 and 15k depending on the settlement I'm going to get from the insurance, I dont know exactly what I'm getting yet. Also one of my friends dad own a car dealership and is gonna to take me to some dealer auctions to see if I can find one cheaper. Justin said he's seen them go through for as little as 5k, which would be ridiculous. But I also want one that IS in good condition.
What would be some good starting mods for a '98 cobra? Depending on insurance and how much a get the car for, a supercharger is on my list eventually. And no one knows of any problems or anything I should be aware of?
I'd try and find a 99 or 01 as they produced a little more power in stock form and did away with the IMRC plates. If its the 96-98 body style your after, you should be able to pick one up and have plenty left for mods. My first mod was the short throw shifter as the stocker was shot. If you are serious about supercharging, throw in some forged rods and pistons, then do exhaust, beef up the rear-end and look for a stronger tranny.
With that level of cash avaiable a 97-98 in great condition is easy to buy. The 97-98s shouldn't have an issue with overheating (96). TSB came out.
Like any late model ... you'd be hard pressed to go wrong from the following MOS:
Gears
Shifter
Exhaust
Suspension ... shock/struts/springs, SFC, LCAs, STB
If a supercharger is on the menu, ensure the motor is running strong. Even if the S/C purchase is down the line. Compression, leak down tests.
First thing would be to do a quick and simple tune up. Fluids, plugs and filters.
Good luck!!!

Looks like that guy did a GREAT JOB on your car man. Sorry, but no one likes a poser. PPLEASEEE don't put "SALEEN" badges on if you end up getting a cobra.
Besides that... 94-98s are now commen and cheap (the v6s/GTs are obsolete). If the difference between a 98 cobra and a 99 is only like $1,000, pick up the 99. The 99s had a call back, claimed to make more horsepower then what they really did, but all the 99s need is a full exhaust system to push out some decent numbers.
Hell a 98 cobra makes more horsepower (when new) then a 07 GT! I think they weigh close to 3,400, i don't know google it.
I would love to get my hands on ANY cobra, I have the problem of insurance though, they don't like anything that has 8 cylinders much less a SVT badge on it.
Any cobra you get is capable of HUGE numbers man

Great points. I would just add that if you are looking at serious power down the line to be careful with the IRS on the 99+ cars

First of all, there were no saleen badges on that car, only roush. And just in case you didn't know, Roush does make things other than body kits for v6 cars. It even had a Roush suspension kit on the way, but I guess I wont need it now. Just because it says Roush doesn't mean it has a big supercharged V8 making 700000 HP, which by the way I never said it had. I've never had anyone straight up call me a poser, it just kinda p****d me off, and just liking the way Roush styling looks doesn't make me a poser. I bought the car with all that there anyways. I never ran around town telling everyone there was a v8 under the hood and I never will.
And anyways, the only roush markers on the car are the ones that come on body kit, and the one on the winshield. I didn't know it was such a cardinal sin to have a windshield decal if you didn't have a supercharged v8 or I would have scrapped it when I bought the car... silly me.
Sorry about the rant... being called a poser just kind of caught me off gaurd... Nice Saleen Front Fascia on that 3.8L though... poser.
I think I will be adding a power adder later on, but thanks for the advice. I probably will just find a 97-98. I've been around the other forums and read about some problems related to the 99 that I don't want to deal with. Hopefully the 98 will serve me well, thanks for the help everyone.
I said don't put a SALEEN badge if you get a cobra dumb fuk. 700000 HP huh? Your fuking intellectually challenged kid, your a freaking poser. You put a ******* ROUSH body kit on a v6 mustang. I bet if some random dude walked up to you and said "nice Roush" you would say "hey thanks!". Poser bro... to bad its not totaled, get that garbage off the road.

Hey 9584, Don't listen to him..... He's a 17 year-old who thinks he knows everything. If he knew better, he would know that he had a front fascia that was not stock...... You can add body kits/parts to your car and it is acceptable. It hits the "grey area" when people try to pass it off as an original. We've all seen it, and we all hate it. I believe there was a thread in this lounge somewhere on it. Good reading. He is using assumptions without even knowing you.
Alot of guys here can guide you in the right direction...... Good luck, Tom

Thats not a pic of my car . Way to make assumptions when you don't even know me . Hey man don't worry about it, he's prolly some 50 year old guy in a office job that has nothing better to do then argue with 17 year olds .
