Default 04 Cobra vs. 02 GT Never would I have beleived this!

NEVER - Never would I have beleived this if I hadn't seen this for myself. 04 Cobra vs. 02 GT ................

Basic rundown - Cobra has 460 hp and 454 torque to the wheels
GT has 398 hp and 378 torque to the wheels

Shouldn't be any contest? The one mod the GT has is a 3:73 vs. the stock Cobra gear.

I was riding in the Cobra -- the GT has two guys in it as well. At a 40-45mph roll and a even kick, the GT killed the Cobra by jumping it 2 cars and the Cobra never came back until 120mph.
This was done with a second gear and third gear kick at 40-45mph. I have a Cobra as well and for the life of me, I can't see how a gear made that much difference, and yes, the guy in the Cobra has been racing for 20 years and can drive the hell out of a car. I have had several gears in my other GT (347 w/ 15psi Procharger), and sure it makes a difference...but I have to wonder if something else was done to the GT that I'm not aware of??

Any inputs? :-) It was unbeleivable to watch it happen. Well, just goes to say never underestimate what pulls up beside of you.

Well, the gears and the weight differance just made it get the jump. only a 60 horsepower differance, it can happend, weight really matters. I think the Cobra weighs 300 pounds more than the GT. And the gears will help alot from a roll, as well.

Hell just look at the 505 horsepower 3100 pound new ZO6 it spanks the 3400 pound 510 horsepower Viper because of the weight differnace. It weighs 300 pounds less and it runs a half second faster, on average, than the Viper. Every hundred pounds makes at least a 1/10th sec differance in the quarter mile. And the ZO6 has 3.42:1 rear end gears vs. the Viper has 3.07:1 rear gears. Weight an gears can make or break a car.

I never underestimate any car, thats when you get cought off guard.

I agree - I'm planning either a Kenne Bell or Ford Whipple - leaning towards the whipple at this time. Buddy of mine has put several on and he seems to think that the whipple runs a little cooler. Both are great but when time/money allows, I plan on trying one of them.

The gear advantage shouldn't have been much of an advantage accept in 1st gear (assuming the tire heights are equal on both cars, and that the GT is sporting a 3650). The effctive final drive comparison b/w the t56/3.55 and 3650/3.73 looks like

T56 3650
1st 10.2950 12.6074
2nd 7.3485 7.46
3rd 5.0765 4.9236
4th 3.55 3.73
5th 2.9820 2.3126

If there is 300 difference, that was a bigger contributor than the gearing. But that looks more like a balancing act than an advantage. Then the fact that the Cobra should be able tooffset that becuse of the flat torque curve production provided by the sc, and unless the CObra was spinning that torque would be a huge advantage in motivating the gears.

Is it possible that the GT was spraying? When all in doubt, it is a good time to let us spray!

The Cobra has 3.55's and the GT had 3.73's, I don't believe that would make much of a difference. I'm going to say he sprayed ya guys

You made the right choice for the 2.8 KB. I prefer the 3.4 Whipple and am thinking of swapping my ported Eaton this winter, but many of my friends have the 2.8 KB and are making hella power! So many others go with the small 2.2L, 2.4L, etc., too small, just go for it! Now I have friends dropping the S/C and playing with turbos, they really get obnoxious! But I like the instant power of the S/C, no lag!
