Good evening fellow Mustang professionals. I need your help. I battled a Mitsubishi Evolution today and lost; horribly. I can't understand why though? I was crusing on the freeway doing about 80MPH in 6th gear. I saw the Evo approaching in my rear (about a quarter of a mile away), but wasn't concerned because he didn't look like he was going that fast....... Or so I thought.
I kept an eye on him and noticed that he kept getting closer and closer. Evenyually, I just took off, and he did as well. Weaving through traffic, he not only competitevly passed me; he shot past me like a ROCKET!!! What gives? I was doing between 100MPH, and 110MPH. I have to admit that my mind was on three different things, 1) a cop,
2) upcoming traffic, and 3) the Evo about to pass me. Is this just the way it is with Evo's and WRX's?
Um, well i love mustangs but hey some imports are fast. they sure do look gay but fast!!! Ya you coulda done more then 110mph. But I agree ddi you down shift

They run high 12s stock, most of the owners turn up the boost to rediculous pressures and the engines only last 40,000 miles but w/e. The Evos are quick. And they have AWD so they can get you from a sto, yuoure generally not going to beat one if your car isnt really the faster car, They practically drive themselves lol.
So you gunned it in 6th??? That would be your problem, keep practicing! Racing from a roll can be tricky, you gotta know your gears and their limitations.
Stock Vs Stock Your Cobra will eat that sh!t up from 80mph roll...
What I found out AUSTIN, is that the EVO I faced was the top of the line; the MR. It wasn't the RS, or the IX. It had to be a MR.
Maybe most have seen this video, but a Cobra took a loss to a EVO, however that same EVO got smoked by a 67 Camaro 412 Cubic inch engine running a 300 shot of nitrous.
isn't the Evo MR just a IX with weight reduction? from a roll, it wouldn't matter if it was lighter, the Cobra could still walk it. from a dig though, the Evo's can only do the sub 5 second 60 mph boogie if they rev high and dump the clutch. Any self respecting Evo driver knows that to many of these launches will ruin the transfer gears and drive shafts. So, you won't see many Evo's do this on the street.
but hey, seek out that Evo and show him what a 3rd gear hammer drop sounds like!!

Guys, I will be 110% honest with you, this is the first manual drive car that I've owned. So I don't know what you mean when you say "dump the clutch". Can this procedure be damaging to any part of your vehicle?
I thought that becasue of the weight reduction, the MR would be even harder to beat.

So what's your personal opinion on a Evo VS Cobra?

dumping the clutch is when you let the clutch out very quickly. unlike letting it out slowly when loligagging around on a Sunday afternoon.
and weight reduction will help when you have a lot of transfer of weight happening. such as hard acceleration off the line and very aggressive cornering. but, when you are already rolling along at 70 mph then the only thing you have to contend with is air resistance, and a lot of it. that is when high horsepower is required to overcome that air resistance. not sure what the CD of an Evolution is, but it looks to me like the front of an 04 Cobra should be more aerodynmic. and you have the higher horsepower, so that gives you the advantage.
remember, these Evo's and STI's are designed from off road rally cars. lots of quick stops, aggressive sharp corners and bursts of acceleration from near stops. the Evo MR is the closest you will get to driving a real rally car on the street.
