Default underhood insulator

Has anyone remove the insulator from under the hood on the 03-04 Cobra? I'm thinking it might cool a little better not to mention for those who want a louder sounding blower, I imagine that this would amplify it somewhat. My only concern is the water that may get in there when washing.

I've done it, and removed the guard from the vents allowing greater airflow. No problems, even when washing my car.

I'm going to have to get the underside painted if I take mine off. It looks like crap with the overspray. I'm going to do the cut out mod and go with it for now.

Ok, let me know how it goes. I carry the vent covers in the glove compartment for a rainy day . The underhood of mine is painted so it wouldn't look to bad.

Since you leave your vent covers off, this may not interest you. I do alot of business with Holcomb Motorsports. They have a new type of aluminum vent replacements for the plastic ones (billet look or black). Take a look at there website and check them out. Let me know what you think.

I may be able to get somewhat of a deal if you want some. Let me know and I will see what I can get two sets for.

Okay, I was thinking about doing this as well. So, how do I remove the thing without tearing something up? Do I just "pull" on those dohickies holding it on? Thanks.

Thats pretty much what I did. Make sure you have something covering your engine, and have a vacuum cleaner handy if you leave the hood on.

Or, you could remove the hood, take off the insulator, and spray paint all in one shot.

Let me know how it goes.

Removing hood insulator. What do I do with what I think is a ground line that is attached to the hood insulator and frame? See photo.

Hi John, I am sure you figured out what to do. In case you didn't, I (with some help) just attached the ground wire to the roof (hood). See below.

04Venom: I'm sorry to say I didn't figure it out. I just sort of tucked it (the line) down below, but left it connected. So again I'm indebted to you. I'll do as you have done. That insulator was really looking bad from weather rot or whatever. It was more of a dust collector than anything.

The ground strap is connected to the foil on the insulator. Remove it all together and put the screw back in. I painted the underside of mine and cut out the flaps so there is nothing but the vents. Still thinking about going with those others I saw. Going down the road with no vents with the blower screaming sounds way too good to keep quiet. Any of you guys going down to mustang week at myrtle beach next week?
