Post Considering buying an SVT Cobra... Need education!

Well, I have a lot of love for my beautiful '03 V6 5 speed convertible, but I'm living at a barracks and don't have anywhere to really work on the car for more than a few hours a time (hence no time to install turbos or anything cool!).

I've decided to look into buying an SVT Cobra, since I heard they come with a better suspension setup and hence put more power of the already impressive engine to the pavement, without a lot of shopping for parts and extra labor to improve the car.

What are your experiences with it? Any bad maintenance issues? I'm looking at mid-90s models, probably 96-98.

i just recently got my 96 cobra a couple months ago. i love it!! havent had any issues with it. she runs good. just make sure to have a mechanic that you know well check it out before you decide to get it. also, once you get it because you dont know where its comming from, i would recommend getting your radiator flushed, tranny fluid changed, and of course your rearend fluid dumped and refilled. i recommend every fluid you use be made by royal purple. royal purple 10w30 works awsome for the t45 transmission. also, when you get a mid 90's cobra, they are know to run a bit warm. not to worry though because its made that way. let me know what your gonna jump into.

love my 96 cobra and considering the 2006-07 3v gt make about the same rear hp & torgue as my 96 cobra. I say the 96-98 cobra give the "poor" man the mustang experience without the heavy car note. I love the 32 valve exhaust note. It sounds much different than the regular gt

My 96 has a few issues but nothing major. But who purchases a sport car, runs the hell out of them, then whines about them breaking? Take care of any sport car and they will last. Good luck on your decision.

Same here, I have a 98 Cobra and I very pleased. Car has it all, power, looks, and the best sound since the 5.0. Car has stock 305 hp just to start. Why buy a new 1 for same hp? Overall good Snakes with enough venom to kill!!!

Same here she runs good, but still gotta things to do.The owner before me drove my baby so rough, therefore some squeking sound coming from front side of my car tomorrow i am gonna get her to a mechanic.Hopefully sounds will be ended by then.
Also Check Engine light is on,last week i got her to a official Ford service but they told me that the official exporte of Ford cars(OTOSAN, Ford Otosan) to the Turkey did not exported SVT-Cobra's. Thats why there is no system database for the Cobra's they said .It sucks but hopefully i am gonna find problem soon.
It's hard to drive a Cobra up in here but for the love of Mustangs i'll suffer.

I know you said your looking for a 96-97. But I have a 1995 cobra and I wouldnt sell it for the world well that's unless I could find a 2000 R. The car runs great and had no problems with it.
