I've got 167k on mine and it's still running strong. It gets driven pretty hard too, taking it to red-line daily. I've had it on the drag strip, launching on dr's, spayed nitrous through it and so on. Some have reported well into the 200k range with no major problems.
Considering that I gave $6,200.00 for a 96 cobra with 89,000 miles. That is a awesome price. I will never go back to a 2v mustang, the cobra spoils you! I had a 96 gt 2v, and I will tell you. The 99 gt 2v is just not fast enough for ya and you will not be satisfied until you supercharge it! So get a 4v!
You pay high insurance, a car note ( for some of us), you picked on by the ls1. hey, you need a fast car. you will love the 4v sound note also!
Cobras are so hard to find and if you do find one, it is usually way over priced. The lady that sold me ours, was wanting 9k!
Good luck!
Rich

"If I am ticking you off, then I must be speaking the truth"
If you take care of them they will last.
Make sure, if you buy it, that you find out what engine oil, tranny fluid, rear end lub, anti freeze he is using, and use the same exact brand and type. regardless of weather or not you like the brand he used. even brake fulid and power steering fluids if you can. sounds over the edge but has always paid off for me.
That biggest mistake people make is buying a use car, changing brands, then cursing the provious owner because the car is having problems dying on them.
Not that it the same vehicle but the last used car I sold was a 91 ford exploder, sold it with 260k miles on it. gave the new owner name of service provider and told him to go there for service. he did and that old exploder is still on the streets and running 3 plus years after we sold it. I used the best oil and changed it every 5000 miles. She was fun to drive and I would take her off road and use and abuse her, my wife drove her to work everyday without fail.
Good luck.

I've heard rumors of 400k+ miles clocked on 2v NY cabs. The 4.6L is a pretty solid motor.

+1 on that!! i know it sounds ridiculous but its true. my brother drove a cab for a while last year in VA and he said the LOWEST mileage car they had was 300,000! they had one with 485k. Now thats getting your money's worth
