hey guys, im new but honored to be in your company.
this (my second mustang) is truely "my baby" and she is ill.
i have a check engine light i cant get rid of . i used an "actron"" OOT THE PORT AND GET A CODE BY COUNTING THE "CHECK ENGINE" LAMP FLASHES ON MOST OBDI VEHICLES......IS THAT TRUE IS THERE A SITE OR DATABASE THAT I CAN GO TO THAT WILL GIVE ME FAULT CODE INFO....SOMEONE PLEASE HELP.....I'M VERRY PROUD OF MY CAR AND CANT BRAGG IF SHE'S NOT "RIGHT", YA KNOW?.....
but how were you gonna read them, is what i need to know... Does anyone have a hanes manual, do you think it would be worth it to buy one? they dont seem as detailed as a chiltons' would be...
Got my scanner from O'reilly's - about 30 bucks for a digital so you don't have to count.Comes with instructions and a chart to tell what the codes are

If you have a Auto Zone or Advanced Auto Parts around you, they will scan you car with a code reader and tell you what code/codes are showing. That way you dont short something out shoving a paperclip in the cpu port. They (used)to give you a key looking thing and a code book free to do what you are talking about counting the flashes. If you have done any mods it mite be needing a cpu reprogramming. I had to have my 96 done to get my light to go off. If anything, I agree with Gts. $30 and you have it when u need it, and if I am not mistaken it will work on all Fords.
Hey,
if i offended anyone, i'm sorry. i thought this was the right place to come. no help from thousands of owners ?
Hey rookie, pump your brakes,chill-lax If you really need the info fast, go to your nearest mechanic shop and have them read your codes, they will give you exact problem and solution. They can also erase "check engine" light temporarily. Or get an OBD 1 code reader from your local auto parts dealer and do just exactly what I described up above. Welcome and good bye.
i used my friends "actron" odbI and it didnt want to tell me anything, unless i was supposed to use a "jumper" also. I found my codes (one being fuel pump circuit failure) wich i corrected erlier, not it seems i have a bad fuel injector thats dumping.....after this problem is resolved, does anyone know how i can erase my "trouble codes" , if not can you guys tell me the brand and model of scanner that you KNOW will work ???..............thanks again(in advance).
You can "erase" trouble codes by disconnecting the battery for 30 mins or so.Also if you can,I'd still get a scanner from a parts dealer..it's so much easier to check in your driveway whenever you want/need to than to track down somebody to do it.Most Advance and Auto Zones (around here anyway) only have the scanner to check the '96 up computers when a customer wants them to check it,but they SELL the one needed for the pre '96 cars...go figure?!?!
