Question Idler pulley needed when swaping pulleys on an 2003 Mustang Cobra??

Im lookin at gettin a smaller pulley for my 03 cobra. I was wondering if i should even bother gettin an aftermarket idler pulley er aux pulley er not. Id rather not if i dont have to but i was just wondering what would happen had i not. Also im lookin at getting the predator tuner...is that a good choice. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I bought my car with the mods already done. From what I've read, you will have to go with an idler if you go with a 2.80. This is what is on my car, and it has a 100mm idler. I've read good things on the predator tune also. The guy I bought my car from told me that is what tune the mod shop used on my car. I called the mod shop, which is in a different state than I live in, and asked the lady if she new what tune they used. She didn't know, but she did fax me the invoice on what was done to my car. It just listed a Pro-Dyno Custom Tune, and it was $650.00. I'm new to this supercharger stuff, so I don't know a whole lot about them. I do know though, that I have a dyno sheet that shows where my car made 478.25 RWHP, and 510 RWTQ. I think that is incredible. I will tell you this, I have found out a lot of "Terminator" knowledge on svtperformance.com. You might go to that site, and find out exactly what your needing to know. Good luck.

I have a 10th anniv 03 that was totally stock when I bought it. Bought a 2.93 pulley from a Lightning and put it on with a 74.0" belt. When it grips it's great but it slips a lot, you can tell cause the boost gage pegs at 10psi for a second or two, then slides back down. Did it this was cause I didn't want to spend the $150 or more to buy an aux idler bracket and pulley but I'm going to have to bite the bullet, you can smell burning rubber after I jump on it a lot. BUT - when it does grip, it makes a noticeable difference. Now if I could just get the rear tires to hook up...

Also forgot to mention - I have read that on the Eaton blowers you shouldn't go smaller than 2.93 pulley if you keep the stock intercooler because it heats up the blower too much and it doesn't work as well. I have a predator and it's got a tune for cars with smaller pulleys so you don't have to take it in for a custom tune if you don't want. I'm sure the custom tune is better but the Predator seems to be working well. Only other mods are K&N filter and Magnaflow catbacks.

Default pulley and tune

When you change your pulley you will have to go with an idler or you can go with a smaller belt. A gates K080740 or K080735 which is recommended. I have the 2.8 pulley and the K080740 and I have no slippage. Some may slip and some may not. Most ford dyno shop use the SCT X3 but do some research and make your decision on which one you want. Just remember to much hp and torque and you will have to make other improvements to your cobra. Such as beefing up the IRS and installing a better clutch assy. when you smoke yours up. When on the dyno watch on the third pull as your incressed hp smokes the tires. You may also want a boost overlay so you can see your boost psi go over ten. Good luck.
