Default 2003 Mustang Cobra Super Charger Upgrades. Kenne Bell vs. Whipple

I am seriously looking into giving my car more of a boost. I would like to have 600 RWPH, but keep it also as a normal daily driver if possible. I am new to Cobra, so I don't know if that is a possiblity. I keep reading that the Kenne Bell can put 617 to the wheels with mostly a stock cobra. Is that real? Has anyone bought one? Which is a better S/C Whipple or Kenne Bell for an 03 Cobra?

I have a KB 2.8H on my 04 Cobra and it was my daily driver until just recently. I purchased a '92 civic to drive back and forth from work. It also cuts down on gas and miles on my Cobra. I never had any problems except for traction It is a complete animal. I run up against two C6 Z06's and killed them both. They were both stock but it was still fun.

What was you horsepower that you put to the wheels after putting the kenne bell on? Was it worth the money? How does it compare to the whipple charger?

I just recently had these questions myself. I recommend the whipple 140ax, The new gen 2's design flows as much as a 2.6H. I was initially going to go with a 2.6H but the price was more and I was not very impressed with the person I talk to when it cam time to order. Seemed like he had better things to do than sell his products. The whipple on the other hand gives you the same performance and the customer service is great. I paid 2995.00 + shipping for my whipple and the KB 2.6H was about $3600 + shipping.

Is it worth $600 more? IMO it isn't.

Just keep in mind there is a lot of other things you have to buy other than just the whipple/KB if you want to hit 600HP.

Depending on what mods you already have here is a small list I would recommend:
whipple/KB (of course) and while the superchargers off I would suggest a Head cooling mod just to be on the safe side.
60# injectors/Harness
Kenne Bell BAP/PPRV delete
New MAF or a MAFia
New clutch
Dual pass Heat exchanger
Bigger IC reservoir
IRS brace (at the leased!)
CAI
full exhaust ( x-pipe, exhaust and for 600+ you should look into longtubes aswell)
SCT xcal 2 or 3 with a GOOD TUNE!

If you want to run pump gas the most boost i would go is 17#'s. After that your putting your engine at risk unless you use race gas or a torco mix.

I don't have the 2.6H, I have the newer 2.8H. I did not do the install myself because I just could not find the free time. It was my daily driver until about a month ago. I am running 18 psi and I have never used anything other than 93 octane. Of course I am also using KB boost-a-pump and boost-a-spark. I also had the guy who did the install for me tune it. I have never had any problems and it runs like a champ. But that being said I don't abuse my car either. So that also helps. I have never used a Whipple so I can't comment on that. As far as price, my KB, all supporting mods, new spark plugs, custom tune, shipping/handling, and labor. The total bill was just barely $5,000. That also includes three days of storage. So I am a fan of the KB. But opinions are like buttholes, everybody has one. The best answer is whatever works best for you.

I was using the 2.6H as a comparison for the New Gen 2 whipple. The Gen 2 has a new rotor profile amongst other improvements to be comparable to the larger displacement 2.6H for a cheaper price. also the 2.8H is not newer than 2.6H they are two different superchargers. the 2.6H replaced the 2.2 and the 2.8H replace the 2.4 they are both the newest from kenne bell. 18 #'s is about the limit I would run on 93 personally. Sorry we only have 91 up here so I'm even more limited. Anything over that you putting your engine at serious risk with out an additive or race gas.

As for your mods from you sig you have the basic parts to do a KB. Do you need and new clutch, Cooling mods, H/E etc.. no but I personally like to be safe than sorry. That said I have done every cooling mod i could,BAP,PPRV and 60# injectors are a must, and changed the clutch cause there is no way the stock can hold up for very long. I spared no expense and Including rims/tires on top of all my mods I don't have much more than $6000 in it so far. The mods i suggested all are not necessary to make the power just to ensure the car is as safe as possible considering he wants it to be a daily driver.
