Default 1998 SVT Cobra - running hot at low rpms

Car spilled coolant all over the road. My kiddo took it to the first shop he came upon in San Marcos. They said they replaced belts, pulleys, thermostat etc (charged me $400). Kiddo drove it to his apartment about 2 miles down the road, car was still running hot. Took it back to auto repair next day, they did diagnostics and told him it was the water pump. Had a different mechanic install water pump. Car still running hot. But only at low rpm's and slow speeds.
When it's revved up (sorry I don't know that much about cars ~ I am a girl) the temp gage goes back to normal. Also when revved the fan kicks into high gear but goes slower at idle. I took it to NTB here in Plano after I drove it back from San Marcos yesterday. They could not figure out what was wrong with it. Could this be some kind of sensor or regulator? Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks!
Tracy

sounds like the coolant temp sending unit? if its not the problem replace it anyways..

edit: you have a 4.6 so the tsu should be right ontop of the manifold in the lower left hand corner just take it out with a like 18/19mm socket

Have you taken care of the overheating problem? I have the same problem with my 98 cobra, too. Replaced the ccrm, going to replace the sensor & sending unit, and drill a hole into the 180 deg t-stat once I get it flushed again.

I think mine needs a new cooling fan, since the it's not coming on when the car is fully warmed up.

btw, I'm female...AND I know a lot about cars...so don't keep thinking that you can't learn more just because you're not a guy.

as posted in another thread on here, are you all "burpping" the coolant system on your DOHC's and where are you adding the coolant not the DeGas bottle I hope

on top of the DOHC engine is a metal pipe that runs from head-to-head and then to a rubber hose, which goes down to the thermostat housing..... on top of that coolant pipe is a @1" pipe plug, that is where your suppose to fill the coolant system from on a DOHC engine, as it's the highest spot on the engine and allows the air to escape, which if the system is "air bound" it will make these cars over heat....

You will find that the fan is only running on low speed. If at all. It is probably fried at the connection. My 96 Cobra did the same thing. Do make sure you fill the cooling system through the plug at the front of the motor not just in the resevoir or it will overheat even if you fix the fan.
