Default 1999 Mustang cobra backfiring and ticking?

After going over a speedbump this morning in my lowered 1999 cobra, had no choice in that matter, my motor started to tick in the back side of the drivers side and when I got it home I revved the motor up to about 3500 rpm and it backfired. Did I knock something loose when I bottomed out on the speedbump or what? Any ideas are very welcome and I just have no idea where to start with this one? My only thought on the backfiring maybe a loose exhaust now but dont know if the 2 are anyways connected at all???????????

the backfiring has stopped and my father in law who somewhat knows cars says that it could be a bad lifter or something like that any ideas?

im dealing with a problem like this on my 03..

im on the second head and i just had a cam follower fall off... i installed a new lash adjuster (lifter) and its still ticks and backfires..my tick does sound like an exhaust leak..try using a sethascope with a 2 ft. rubber hose and listen for exhaust leaks first..problem could be many things like 02 sensors,,frps, bent valve,or worn valve train,,,loose air filter ,,good luck

just got done and the ford dealership and the problem is that a spark plug was blown out of the engine. this apparently is an ongoing problem with 97-04 mustang motors and there is even a class-action lawsuit against ford right now b/c of it. on one consumer advocasy site there were 189 pages of complaints and after a little more research I found on ford.com where they have admitted this is a problem and have even come up with a way to fix it on non-warrantied cars and on warrantied cars to replace the heads. They tried to give me the run around at the dealership but now I am armed and dangerous with this info, I be darned if they think I am going to pay $3716 for a ford defect on a motor with 17,000 miles on it. anyways anyone else with this problem check your plugs and make sure they are tight. this causes them to strip and blow out on the aluminum blocked motors. f-150 navigator f 250 etc.....
