I have been having troubles with my trany, first off, when i turn the car on an get ready to backup some times it wont stay in revers?? it will kit out an also, some times when i try to shift into 1st it acts as if it dosent want to an like its jamed An i have the clutch pedal to the floor? But some days, it works with no problems? just wanted to get your guys 0.02

mine does the same thing,,,it feels like its locked out of reverse. Usually i just let the clutch up and try again. if that doesnt work i shift into 1st then reverse. only time its ever popped out on me though is if im just cruising in third gear, i let up on it and it just pops back
ha ,,,yeah i just try shiftin real slow into reverse in front of people,,,,,iv put it in before and people think i cant shift cuz it tries to grind in if i dont sit on the clutch a sec before tryin
Sorry for the late answer, I never could figure out how to fix. Couple of people told me to pull the tranny an have it checked out, but i just don't want to do all that work.

I had the same problem but I did the 2nd gear then reverse trick (same thing). Mine started after the transmission was swapped for a different one. Sometime it would pop out of 1st gear is I didnt hold it in with my hand. (very rarely though). and the reverse grind got me too.
I'm sure you could get it fixed, but it'll probably be costly.
My guess is its either incorrect alignment of the trans axle or just some stuff is worn down inside the trans.
Is it really that annoying to pay $2000 to have it fixed though? Thats the question.
This seems to be the weak link in our cars. I had my transmission rebuilt under warranty, and it still had the reverse grind problem. The Ford Dealer told me it was normal. I hate dealing with it. I thought maybe using manual transmission fluid might help, but no one here tried it, so I scrapped the idea.
Anyone try using the standard manual transmission fluid? It seems weird to use ATF when the standard is MTF.
Mine has the same problem. I just got ise to putting it into 1st then go to reverse. Plus will grind once in awhile going into 2nd. I think if it ever got worse then would try for a rebuild. Other then that it looks like a common problem with these.
