Default 1999 Cobra overheating

Hello,

I was leaving work in my 99 cobra the other day and I noticed that my "add coolant light was on. I figured that it was just alitle low on coolant so I contiunued to drive home. I work 30 min away from my house and once I got there, the needle was almost all the way to the hot side and it was steaming bad. I examined all of the hoses and discovered that there was a hole in the heater hose going to the firewall due to rubbing against a bolt. "No biggie" I thought. I replaced the hose and figured I was done. It was a PITA to get on by the way. But anyway it is still getting hot and the coolant will start to ooze out around the cap once hot. The heater is not blowing hot. i can hear the water making noise trying to travel to the engine, like a bubbling noise The fan is coming on so I do not think it is that. I suspect that i might have messed up the theromostat when i drove it hot. has anyone ever had a similar problem? I hope like hell it is not a blown head gasket. there is no water coming out of the tailpipes so I dont think it is that either. if it is the thermostat does anyone know where it is? Thanks in advance

the thermostat on a DOHC is down at the bottom where the coolant hoses joing up at the thermostat housing...
could be an air pocket in the coolant systemt too, Im assuming you had to add coolant if-so, did you "burp" the system after topping off wth coolant

i did have to add coolant. i added it at various times. Like when it was running and when it was cold. I did not burp the system. Does that mean just flushing it out? Thats where I thought the thermostat was at. (of course it would be in a hard spot to get to) its on the top for a GT. i am not very experienced in fixing cars so how do I go about burping the system. i appreciate the info.

well, I'd all most bet you've got an air pocket in the system, very common on DOHC's if you do not "burp" the coolant system....up on top is a metal tube which runs from both cyl heads and than to the front coolant hose, on the metal tube are your ECT and gauge temp sensors, also on that tube is a @1" pipe plug, you'll have to remove it to bleed all the air out of the coolant system, thats also where you should fill it from....

that was it. I appreciate it. my car is not getting hot anymore. I just took off that plug and filled it with water. it took a good bit of water to fill it up. I have been driving it since 3:00 with no problems (it is 6:00 now). That is like removing cancer from my body. i thought I was going to have to tear the whole thing down
