higher gears will get your through the rpm's a lot quicker. for example: in terms of 1/4 mile, say u have 3:31's vs 4:10's. with the 4:10's, by the end of the 1/4, ull be in the peak of the power band, which is good as ull still be gaining speed. w/ 3:31's, (vets chime in here if i'm wrong), u'll be way lower in the gear. overall, the 1/4 time would be better with 4:10's
that said, overall higher gears r supposed to get u going faster. in the same hand, tho, keep in mind that with higher gears, traction can become and issue. 3:73's ur usually a middle ground that keeps everyone basically happy, with 4:10's being the next popular choice. if uve got the tires for it, i'd say stick in the range of 4:10, a bit higher if ur really goin to work on traction
