1996 Cobra Mustang fuel filter location

A friend of mine had taken his Cobra out for a spin...He shut it off to do some shopping at the local car parts store and it would not start when he was ready to leave. He had asked me where the fuel filter is and for some reason, I could not be positive if the filter was in the fuel tank or not---Anybody have any idea where it is for sure?

check under the vehicle in front of the gas tank. Should be held in place by a clamp.
