2003 Cobra clutch assembly or SC problem

My 2003 Cobra has 27K miles, no 1/4 trips and really not pushed hard. The SC stopped engaging, no boost at acceleration. While in gear at speed hitting the gas causes a jump in rmp but no boost from the SC. Speed goes up, but at a slower rate. Jump in rmp but no boost happens in all gears. Dealer says its a clutch assembly issue and they can get boost from the SC. I have not been able to duplicate the boost. I'd like some help on this before I spend $1200 on the clutch assembly. Has anyone run into this type of problem? I'm having trouble accepting it is a clutch problem since on the highway I'm aready in gear and can't get boost from the SC. Any suggestions?

well id call that a S/C problem snapped chain or bad bearing but it sure doesnt sound like a clutch problem..... hell why would the clutch have anything to do with the S/C anyway? boost is from rpm's!

Thanks for the input, I 'm taking the car to another shop - thanks to the recommendation from Randy, they don't think it is a clutch problem either. Glad there is a forum to go to with problems.
