Question 1999 Mustang Cobra Cooloant System Leak

After much searching I finally found a leak in my coolant system. I found it on the top of the engine block at the intake pipes (I think they are intake) for my coolant system. It appears that the thermostats were removed and the pipes were jb welded to the block. This seems weird to me but I do not have a lot of expertise in cobra engines.

I was wondering if anyone has run across this and if so what did you do to resolve the situation.

It is hard to explain in words but it appears that the pipes were welded as I said with jb weld and the weld finally gave way. The pipes are also secured to the engine block by one bolt each. The bolt is tightened against the engine block on a strip of metal that was welded (hard weld) to the pipe. I know this is probably the main source of tension that holds the pipes in place with the jb weld being a secondary sealer.

Again any information would be helpful!

well I dont know why they'd be sealed-up as there is an O-Ring on each tube, maybe remove it and sea if the O-Rings are missing?
or you might need to buy a new x-over tube asbly?

So there is supposed ot be an o-ring there? It may even be an o-ring that has been pushed out over time. Again I am not experienced with thsi system. Does the assembly have a tapered end to fit snug with the o-ring into the block? In order to take the assembly off do I need ot drain the system?

Thanks for your help!

yes you'll need to drain the coolant system and ONLY refill it from the X-over, there's a @1" pipe plug in the top of it for adding coolant and burping the system, the tube(s) are not really tappered but do have a channel for the O-ring to sit in and seal....do you have access to a fax line? I could send you a pic

Yeah a picture would be great. I think this sounds pretty simple but a photo would make me understand fo rsure that we are talking the same parts. You can fax it to 253-531-5577 or oyu can email me the photo to dusan@allstate.com. Thanks

One other thing, if I wanted to replace this part where would i go? I have looked all over online and cannot find anyone that sells that part. Is this a high end part that is hard to find? I assume a simple o-ring replacement could work but if I am going to pull the part might as well change it too (it is pretty rusted and beat up).

I got the fax, thanks so much. That is the exact part we are looking at. So....

1. What is the cost of the tube
2. If I didn;t buy the tube do I need manufacture spec o-rings or can i just buy an o-ring kit?

You are a great help my man!
