Default Turbo 99 Cobra Questions

So I'm looking at putting the Hellion turbo kit on my car and I need some advice. I know the 99 Cobras have the Teksid block, but with 85k miles, I worried about boost without a rebuild. If I rebuild too I'm looking at additional cost, but I can lower the compression and turn up the boost. How much do you all think a stock 99 Cobra motor with 85k miles can handle? Also I have 3:73 gears and I've been told with a turbo they could be too steep. I'm looking for opinions, and please don't tell me about how I should sc it, cause I'm not going that route.

Those miles and stock internals, i would have to say no more than 450rwhp. but not sure how well the engine has been treated or beated on. If in good shape, probably the 450rwhp if not, could be on borrowed time. I think a single turbo would be more your route. If you had your engine built for it, i would say go twin. Single turbo will be fun though. The 3.73's will be fine.

Well 85k on a 99 is like 8500 miles per year. I've only put like 2k mile on it this year. This car has seen autocross events but never a drag strip. I run it but I baby it too. Mobil 1 full synth., with a Motorcraft filter every 3000 miles. All service done by Ford or SVP Unlimited(dedicated Mustang shop). No smoke at all and no leaks, and it's been dyno tuned. I'm not worried about the shape of the engine, just the weakness of a used na engine suddenly being force inducted. I only plan on doing the single turbo set up that Hellion sells. But with the 99's having something like 10.5:1 compression, I'm just a little worried about boost. But if I rebuilt it I'd beef up everything and drop compression to like 8:1. But building the engine will be another $3-4k + $9-10k for the Hellion kit. I don't know what I'll go with yet.

The 3.73's will be ok but they will not be the best for the setup. I would go with a 3.27 or 3.42 for the best performance. Also get a leakdown test done on the motor and that will give you an idea of how the engine is doing. The Cast rods are not very strong, I would not exceed 450 to the wheels.

Do it right lower the comp with forged internals, theese cars are a world of difference between the 5psi you will put on the stock motor vs the 20psi on a built plus your always going to have worries in the back of your head on the stock motor
