Default Over heating and need Help--01 Cobra

Need some help here...

2001 cobra--The temp gage doesn't show hot but occasionally when I drive up and turn off the engine it dumps antifreeze and it seems to blow it all over the front of the motor. It's starting to now overheat The reservoir seems too full but when I allow it to cool down the level drops significantly... Is this a thermostat problem? If so, where the heck is the thermostat and how do I change it.

Any help would be appreciated..

if you follow the top radiator hose back to the motor you should find an elbow that bolts to the engine under that elbow you will find the thermostat. i would definetly get your temp sensor checked or replace it, also make sure your fans are coming on

top hose is going into a U thing and then directly into the motor. I really don't see anything that looks like the old fashion thermostat housing

thats for a SOHC....
a DOHC thermostat housing is down near the bottom of the engine, follow the hose comming off the upper x-over and follow it down to an aluminum housing, thermo is inside of it....also there is a big @1" pipe plug in the coolant x-over, thats the highest spot on the engine for the coolant system and the ONLY place to add coolant and
burp" the system from, not thru the DeGas bottle.......

Great info..How much of the coolant is lost when I go for the thermostat..Just needed to be prepared for the flow before I start...I don't need a flowing surprise..
