Ford Racing King Cobra Clutch destroyed after 6,500 miles?
My buddy has an '03 SVT Cobra, bought the car used. He learned stick on the car, and at 55K, the clutch was replaced. By then, he was a good driver, and JBA Racing put in a new King Cobra Clutch and Flywheel for him, and 6,500 miles later, they said it's completely dead. The clutch is slipping in gear if you push it too hard, and they're saying it's his fault. I can personally say that there's no way he could have done it; he's a damn good driver, and I'd trust him with my car anyday. Anyone have any suggestions?
That really sucks. Usually parts that do wear out, though that was a little to premature, they won't warranty it. Maybe if it would of happened alot sooner, maybe. You can say he's a great driver and so can your friend but they'll look at it as the user that did it. I would just let them know that you plan on taking your service to other places and that you'll let others know about it. Maybe if anything, ask to buy a new setup but have them do the install for free. Though not sure if it could have been the clutch itself that was bad, they installed it wrong or what.
That sucks but hopefully your friend can get something worked out.

Hmmm...I just find it so hard to believe it could be his fault..he doesn't even do burnouts or anything too crazy; couple races here and there, tends to coast in 6th gear..crazy.
I installed one in my 95 about a year ago and the adjustment on the new cable kit ,that was installed at the same time, is almost max out. the car has high mileage so i take it easy because its not to far from 200k miles. would of thought it would last longer than this.
I installed a king cobra about 4 years, 20,000 miles ago. Its been great since the day it was put in. Just want to get in a different opinion in here. The wierd thing is, I searched EVERYWHERE and got mine from the cheapest possible online store. I think it was something like $125..not sure though. I would figure mine wouldve broke because I got it from the cheapest place I could fine. Knock on wood...dont want mine crappin out on me just before winter.
I agree with you that it should not fail after only 6500 miles. It could be a million things though. Does ur buddy ride the clutch (like rest his foot on the pedal). Could be improperly installed. Could be a bad clutch from the manufacturer. Could be a bad clutch cable or other part that it wearing out the clutch. Just impossible to know. Be happy its just a clutch and not something expensive to fix. ....Good Luck
have one in my car and i love it, it grabs real nice and has taken alot of abusse, knock on wood, probally a bad install, buy a new clutch and they should put it in for free.

How is is flywheel? Maybe they didn't resurface it properly when the clutch was replaced? I had a warped flywheel kill a king cobra in my fox in just a few thousand miles. Replaced the clutch & flywheel and have over 20k on the new king cobra.

he had the stock(at least, assuming) clutch and flywheel replaced with the King Kobra kit..cost him 1400 total, parts and labor, from JBA over on Convoy Street in San Diego..no he doesn't ride his foot on the clutch, and we were thinking it was installed improperly, but the shop said there's nothign they can do, and they won't reinstall a new one free; it'll cost another 800.00

I had a shop install my (1st) centerforce clutch and it went in just a few days of having it!!!!! I didnt even get to past a 100 miles on it. The shop also gave me a run around the same bull as your friend is getting probley. It's the phrase (it's your fult and your were beating on it..and so on). I now have a ram power grip clutch and I LOVE it vs. a center force(I had 2 of them). If anything tell them your going to call the 'better business bureau". They should help you out then. Most companys dont want to be on the sh*t list. I'd still call them to see if they can help you out!
