Unhappy 1995 Mustang Cobra, Starting Issues

I have a 1995 Mustang Cobra that is stock except for the BBK cai,Kirban fuel pressure regulator that is a little over a year installed and a fuel gauge , BBK 1 5/8 shorty headers, 70mm BBK throttle body, and an MSD blaster coil. My problem is that the car turns over but does not start and sometimes it does. I know that it will start if I turn the key on to hear the fuel pump cycle. If it cycles and then after a few seconds, cycles again without turning the key, it wil start and usually run the whole day although while driving it has just stopped running and then starts back up. My fuel gauge will read no preassure when it doesn't start. when you turn the key to cycle the pump the pressure jumps up and then bleeds off. I bought a new 155lph fuel pump but want to be sure that is the problem. Can you here the pressure bleed off from the fuel pump if you listen with a stethascope at the regulator? sorry so long winded! Thanks for any help you can provide!

usually when you turn the key over, i would here it cylce once and only once. pressure should be there and the car starts. if it's acting a little weird, it could be a bad pump which can happen. i've seen a friend put in a new walbro 255 that didn't work and had to put another one it. If you just bought and installed it. i would exchange it for another one or send it back and get a different brand.

I haven't installed the pump yet. I'm not sure how difficult it's going to be to replace the pump and will be bummed if that isn't the fix.

I'm not 100% on the fix but the swap isn't that hard, just watch on how you take it out and install it the same way. make sure to get your car close to E on the gas before dropping your tank.

I adressed this issue in detail (last night) and i now see that it was not even posted...I had the same problem and after replacing my fuel pump TWICE, found out that it was my "pick-up" module (located inside the distributor) it gives the car's computer the go-ahead to fire up the fuel pump..if there's spark.....if this is your case, be carefull and mark the stator position (the toothed wheel that rotates on the same shaft that the rotor does).If you dont mark it before you pop it off (because it is a press-fit part) you will loose your timing, so mark it against the distributor position so you can put it back where you found it and DO NOT start the car till your all done.

I replaced my distributor with a summit racing unit and all is well now! Thank you all that replied for your help!
