all right cool. I'll look in to getting long tube headers. How hard are those to install? Never putt headers on a modular motor before. From what I have seen looking under neath it, its going to be a tight fit lol.

HOLD Up Bro, Don't waste you money on Long Tubes for a 99SVT (the same car I have). To make that header swap bearable you'll need to pull the motor or at least loosen the Motor Mounts to rock the engine cause it's so wide, there's NO room to work, plus the performance gains aren't much unless you plan on adding a supercharger, keep the Factory Headers(they flow fine) and go with an H-Pipe FOR Sure not an X!!
I have the Mac Aluminized with their Durablack Cat Back Kit..
An X pipe will out flow an H pipe, and high flow cats not O/R if it's street driven. Reason why, you'll lose too much needed back pressure, which will amount to a loss of about 12-15hp. Go ahead guys, you all can laugh about the loss, but talk to any repudable engine builder and he'll give you the answer to that. I've been doing it for forty years, and the dyno doesn't lie,Mike.
On a normally aspirated 4.6 32V (with no Mods to heads, intake etc..)the gains of an Xpipe over an H-Pipe will be next to nothing and you have to deal with the inferior sound (like marbles rattling inside)!! And ITLRUN your saying you'll loose too much back pressure with the Hpipe? It won't be any different with an X and it's not an issue if you have a good catback kit. And I'd LUV to see a dynosheet showing cat's outflowing an Hpipe~~
maybe if you added a 3in midpipe and catback, then i can see losing power unless your making crap loads of hp. also LT' are know for their power making over stock or aftermarket shorties, but they are a pain to install, i always drop the k member. also with LT's sometimes you run into problems if you have to change out your clutch, you might have to remove or loosen them up to move around. I like the H pipe over the X, though the X will give you just a few hp more, nothing worthy. The H sounds good, the X is a raspy, sometimes at certain rpms sounds like a gargling crap noise that sounds awful. Just my 2 cents.

Like marbles?
I dont know who did your's. It will be more raspy but you can fix that a little bit more by having a different muff.
It's long tubes all the way!!!
But here's a F.Y.I. If you have state testing you might want to think about the long tubes. Depending if they look under your car and in the motor bay you could fail. You will pass the test for the smog but not the visual part.
They dont look in your motor in wisconsin so I was good to go!

Keep in mind it is illegal to remove or change/upgrade cats before 50,000 miles unless they break. And a $10,000 fine for being catless. Just don't get caught
V8's have uneven flows out of the exhaust. An X-pipe allows even pressure through out the system allowing better air flow over an H-pipe. . . which increases HP. But can possibly lower torque if done too big.

No I don't have an X I use an H and I personally have done all my own exhaust sytems, the marble reference was attributed to others I've heard when on the throttle, I don't find it pleasant I'm old school!

What do you mean?????
That's the reason we all have change our cat's because they broke before 50,000 miles!!!!
10,000 ? That's if your car DOESNT get tested!!! But could depend on the state? Never heard of a fine like that before?

x pipes tend to give you more torx vs. h pipes give more hp.
But on the other hand I've also heard they give you both the same power.
To tell you the truth. I've had both. I like my "x" more. To me I though I could feel it more? Dont know could be just in my head!

Yeah, it is a 10,000 dollar fine. . . I bought a car recently and didn't check for cats. . . duh. . . When I went to get emissions tested the tester told me of the fine when my car failed. Needless to say I lit a fire under the dealerships a$$. I said if you went too big it can take away from torque btw. As in if you went to a 3.0" instead of 2.5"

2.5" is fine. Nascar uses that size!
