I've always found that when I replaced my stock shifter with an aftermarket there is a trade off. I get clean crisp shifts for the cost of some trans whirrrrr. It's normal. The blower drowns it out after 4k rpm.

You can use rtv but the gaskets makes it easier for next time if you have to remove it.

I used the Cobra Bob Gaskets for my Steeda Tri-Ax, the one that seals the shifter to the Tranny is decent but the ones he supplies for the shift handle bolts rip and deteriorate within a year, this is the place where the gear noise originates, I've had good luck with hard plastic washers (get em at Lowes or Home Depot) put between the handle and shifter on both sides! It doesn't matter if you use RTV or the gasket if you don't address the shift handle bolts you gonna get noise no matter what, it's a trade off for a better quality shifter!
