Question Wider tires on a 1998 cobra

I would like to put some wider tires on the back of my cobra like 315 but to do this i need to get new rims and I like the 1998 cobra rims but they only come in one size 17X8. I have looked at other rims and the 1995 cobra rims look close to the the same as the 1998 rims. The ?s are do the 1995 rims look close to the same as the 1998 and is thier any performance gains going to a wider tire ir is mostly for looks. I would like to stay at the same width up front maybe go one size wider 255. any and all info would be great.
thanks

I don't think you could put a 315 on a 17X8 anyway. I have 255X40 ZR18 on the front, and 305X35 ZR18 on the rear of my 96 Cobra Convertible. But like you said, different wheels 18X9 up front and 18X10 out back with the quad shocks removed. I'll tell you like it is, a 305 out back is plenty wide enough. The only gains I see, is that it's been lowered and it handles like it's on rails. The wider tire, is mostly for looks and handleing, Mike. SCT Tuner.

thanks for the info I just don't know if going wider in the back is really worth it. I like the 98 cobra rims but I will need to replace them the owner before me liked to bounce of the curbs I hate to replace them with the same thing but thats life. I could use the old one's for the winter time and the new ones in the summer
