I'm getting ready to do mine next week and wondered what RPM the motor stops making power? I don't wanna spin it to 6500 if at 6000 it starts falling off. 99 Cobra Normally aspirated stock heads, intake and cams with free flowing exhaust!
I would think 6000 would be enough. Ofcourse your dyno guy will turn it more (may 200-300 more) rpms from that point to get a base line test. Years ago, during the fox era, everyone wanted to know shift points. Stay in in as long as the nose is up. When it starts plaining off, shift. This usually happens before 6000rpms.
Usually the place you take it to knows when they usually drop off. you can tell him to take it to a certain point and let off, if you want. Also if they see it start to drop off, usually they'll stop it right then anyways.
My 05 made power up to about 6K but once i got the stage 3 cams, i told him to take it to about 7k rmps. i made my max HP at 6500rpms. Just ask them questions and see where you want to take it. let us know how it goes

We peaked it at 6300 and surprisingly it held the power there pretty well, it wasn't like the stock 87-93 heads that take a nose dive at 5 grand! My power numbers weren't what I was hoping for but the heat in the shop was reading 93 on the Dynojet and I don't have a custom tune for the New Forged Motor yet, my tuner says there's lots left in it. I took a couple vids if anyone wants to check em out (And don't worry about seeing smoke coming out my exhaust, when the plug backed out of the head and exploded the coilpack, I got about 2 quarts of oil in my exhaust, when we took the Hpipe off and tipped it vertical it poured out, so your seeing the oil and moisture burning off, no problems, It was only the 3rd run that did it after it got nice and hot! There sun blaring in too! haha!
I dynod at 301rwhp, and 300ftlbs of torque. But my exhaust is 3" with 3.5" tips so I'm loosing some torque. I prepared my exhaust for a Hellion kit. Now I just need the $$$ for the kit. LOL

Without the tune it was 294rwhp, and 296ftlbs of torque. I was kinda disappointed. I won't be happy until I break into the 400's. The hellion kit will get me all up in there. BTW, nice looking Cobra!

COOL, what type of tune as you talking about? Your saying you only picked up 7 HP with a full dyno tune? or was it a canned tune from a Predator;SCT??
That was a full dynotune from Doug Studdard from Bamachips. He did a baseline run and that was the first numbers, then he tuned it. Now he did tweak alot of air to fuel and timing, so I know I'm safe. But yes I was a little disappointed with 7hp gain for $500. But it is what it is.

A good tuner can tune/tweak the car off the dyno and then make the final tweaks on the dyno saving you big...$500 is alot of money unless he spent about 5 hours working on your car
278 RWHP 291 Torque running lean and not enough timing!
I'm also running lower compression pistons 9:1 Probe Forged!
And 2ManyStangs I see your in Tampa? any KickAss Cobra Tuners you can recommend that use Diablosport CMR software on your side of the bridge? I'm in Pinellas! CJ
