Default 94-95 Cobra 5.0

ok guys, i got a couple questions that might make you think for a minute... now, really the only reason for owning a 5 liter cobra is basicly because of the motor correct? yet the only differences that i have read that set the gt 302 and cobra 302 apart are the heads, the intake, and the cam and apparently everyone is quick to suggest changing all of that for aftermarket to make more power... now, if your gonna buy a cobra and change out all of its signature parts, then what in the h**l is the point of dropping crazy money on a cobra when you can do the exact same thing with a GT and get the same result??? i mean thats basicly what makes a cobra besides a couple snakes on the fenders and a few suspension upgrades isnt it? another question i have is if these GT40 heads and intake suck so much then why are they going for a good bit of money? is there anything else about a cobra 5.0 that sets it apart from the GT like the block or anything? c'mon guys, i just bought a 95 cobra and quite frankly im a bit disappoointed... honestly if i didnt get this car for as cheap as i did, and i read this first, i never would have bought it... a couple things that dont add up to me.. is one.. if 94-95 cobras are such pigs, then why are they going for so much... and two.. how do you reduce the displacement and the compression of a motor like they did with the 96 and up, and gain 65 or more HP (excuse me if i sound stupid).... theres got to be a way to bring the 302 up to run with the 4.6s with the stock parts or at most a cam change and doing something with the computer

Wow, well for starters, the reason why it was a bit pricey was the rare nature of the car. You could only get a 5.0L Cobra in a SN95 body in 94 or 95, thats it.

They have huge brakes compared to the GT, a little bit better suspension, different facia and 17 inch wheels standard. Mach 460 CD player standard (hey in 94/95 that was a big thing), leather seats, all the SVT documentation. The Cobra T5 (a little tougher), and the better breathing GT40 heads, Cobra intake, and Crane 1.7:1 true roller rockers.

If all you wanted to do was tear it apart, then yeah you should have tried to find a GT, or a foxbody. Way cheaper.

I actually think the 94/95 Cobras are really comparable to 99-04 GT's as far as performance. With decent drivers, they usually run the same 1/4 miles...

Now when you talk about that small 4.6L in the 96+ Cobras making way more power, relize that it is a completely different engine. Its an all aluminum engine, with HIGHER compression, not lower then the 5.0L. It has double overhead cams, 32 valves, and the intake and cylinderhead flow are much better then what came in the 93-95 Cobras.

As far as them not keeping up with the 4.6L? Look around a bit more, you will find 5.0L and other windsor based small blocks making INSANE amounts of power with not too much effort. All the 4.6L's have only recently been able to make lots of power with ease, and the 2V's still struggle to make lots of power n/a.

finaly im getting somewhere... dont get me wrong, i love cars for they're originality so therefore the reason for this post was because i dont wanna have to tear the whole motor apart and replace everything, just to make more power.... now other then your basic exhaust and air intake upgrades.. whats the best way to make power other then gears, cause im sick of hearing about 3.73s and 4.10 gears

There are a lot of threads on this website on whether to buy a 4.6 or 5.0.... Check them out and see if they help you out...

There are 2 main reasons I bought a '94 GT (302ci) instead of a 4.6: 302's are much easier to work on, and aftermarket parts are cheap and you can find them EVERYWHERE.
In my opinion the only advantage the 4.6 guys have is ease of tuning with a handheld tuner...

A lot of "GT guys" actually upgrade their heads and intake to a Cobra setup. With the GT40 heads and GT40 intake.
Why do people buy the Cobra? Well, because it's a COBRA!
Most people tear into their motors whether it's a Cobra, GT, or V6. More power almost always equals more fun!

If you want to make more power, then you'll have to change things. Gears are the best bang for the buck. They are fairly inexpensive and will give you instant gratification. Something else that will make you quicker at the track would be to upgrade the suspension. Get some subframe connectors, upper & lower control arms, and some good shocks/struts.

Another way you can make more power and keep all your other stuff is to stroke the engine to a 331 or 347. Why in the world would you want less displacement?
The 4.6 is a completely different engine. It's and overhead cam engine compared to the pushrod 302.
