Smile Mods For my 1998 Cobra

Well it’s getting to the point that I’m going to start modifying my Cobra. I think the first thing is going to be new gears in it. Been really thinking hard on this one. I will be putting a S/C on it but they will be one of the last things I do. (And it will most likely be a Kenne Bell). The gears I’m thinking of are either 3.73 or 4.10’s I’m leaning in favor of the 4.10’s I like acceleration and I’m going to replace the stock tranny with a 6 speed with a .62 overdrive. So basically its new tires then new gears new tranny and clutch then the S/C. So what are your thoughts on this? Any help comments would be appreciated. This is going to take some time but you have to start somewhere.

if you drive the car on the street the 3.73 is the way to go. My 98 has 3.73s and my 94 gt has 4.10. As soon as the 94 gt was on the track(nasa hpde) The 4.10 was not good at all. The 3.73 would have been way better. My 03 cobra still had stock 3.55 and that thing was great. 4.10 will make the power to short for a non race motor designed around that gearing

thanks for the info makes you think. I thought with the 6 speed tranny it would give me more gear options and with a lower overdive gear it would work. But I need to do a little math to see what options I have to work with

3.73 are the way to go. 3.55 if you have the 6 speed with the power. and your not drag racing.
The 4.10s I have are in a 94 gt 5.0 it has about 1000rpms less before red line than a mod motor. This would make the 4.10s a little better. I also have 18"s on the 94 and on my 98 cobra with 3.73 I have the stock 17's

My friends 96 Cobra had 4.10's and it was awesome. You have to look at all aspects of your car. Do you just want the get up and go on the street, is it for the track, are you concerned with mpg or top end speed and so on.
4.10's in a mod motor and a push rod motor is different to me. The 5.0 has more low end power, the mod motor has to build up to hit it's power, especially the DOHC's.

a road race car the 4.10s will run out. 135 mph and you are way up there even in a mod motor , 5 th gear 6k rpms. that is pushing it. the 3.73 is the best all around choice for a street strip car. At 80 you will be at 3k rpm
The difference from 3.73 to 4.10 is very small.
On the other hand a drag race car will be better with 4.10s

I like the 3.73.
A 3.91 would be right in the middle > Vintage 428scj gearing

Hey 98SVt, if you really want a supercharger, you'll be better off selling your car and buying one with it already on it...I wish I had, it cost me about $7000 to add the Kenne Bell and have it installed, tuned and full gauges installed...additionally you could have twin turbos for the same investment and a heck of alot more power...

I would personally go with the 4.10s. I would do tires last so that when you have new gears and the sc you can smoke the heck out of them. About the supercharger. You have to shop around and I wouldn't be going with a kenne bell either. Unless you are going to modify your motor. Kenne bells are top of the line superchargers and if you are only going to be pushing a safe 7 or 8 lbs on the stock motor go with something cheaper. Thats my recommendation.

I gotta say again my friend, for everything you will spend you should sell your car and buy the Terminator, your car will never be what that is for probably the same money

i 2nd that for sure just go drive a stock 03-04 cobra. Dont waste your money building something. You can always buy it cheaper.
I drive my 94 gt the most then the 98 cobra and every time I think one of the other cars are fast I get in my 03 and it puts the biggest smile on my face. most people have no idea what that car is. The motor is built already, Yours would cost $10k just to build the motor to handle boost safe with no worries above 6 psi of boost. the tremie is all there. i beat the piss out of it at the a nasa hpde event . i had no idea what that car could really do until then . Man they are bas a$$ machines, and your grandma can drive it to the store and back
