Default Headers Questions

Im about to buy headers for me 2001 cobra and I had a few questions. Would anyone recomend getting the midpipe as well?... or is it a waste of money? (I need cats) What brand(s) would you recomend that wont destroy me monies supply?

if you got a stock H pipe id just stay there. i chose no mid pipe.

i have yet to find some one else who when changing their oil ( every 2000 miles or when they get bored ) details the under side of their car.

X-C April 2010,Heads, Cam,Internals April 2011, or blown engine, witch ever comes first.

A X pipe with cats for you car won't be cheap. I paid about 290 for my Bassani X with no cats, i think with high flow cats the prices ranged from 400 to over 500 bucks. You can always get the offroad pipe and weld in one cat on both sides, might be a cheaper way.
i think bbk has some in the mid 300's.

DON'T buy headers for your 01! Do you realize the labor involved in this job? It will take a GOOD mechanic who has done this car before at least 8 hours, most drop the K-Member and install them that way, others pull the motor,Totally not worth it if your only gonna add a few normal performance bolt ons. Keep the stock exhaust manifolds and get a high flow catted H and a good Catback Kit!
That's just my 2 cents!
On highly Modded Cobras Long Tube headers will give a solid 20 RWHP gain but those guys usually install them when the motor is out of the car and being rebuilt with Forged internals.
Go pop your hood and see how much room is between the shock towers and Heads, haha!!

yeah I was just reading about the brutality involved in swapping them myself. I really want a deeper sound though. The car came with flowmaster and 4" magnaflow tips. Do you guys have any suggestions on what else I should get then? I heard gears are a ***** to install as well, so i am no too keen on those either.

I still have the Stock 3.27 gears much to the dismay of friends and fellow SVT Forum guys, most say 4.10-4.30's are the best but I have a T-45 tranny with a .68 overdrive gear, I just hate the feel of high revs on the highway, I dealt with that in my 89GT. I can still speed shift and keep in the powerband revving to 6600, I know I'd be quicker with 4.30's but don't want to sacrifice my daily driver, and yeah a gear change with the IRS is more costly than a solid 8.8 axle!
And WHY do you need Cats? If I were you I'd take that stock H-pipe off, it's choking your exhaust, I know PLENTY of boys and girls in Texas running off road X's and H's! For a comparo I have the Stock headers, Mac Off Road H, and their Catback Kit, here's a Dyno run from the back of my car, I shut it down about 6500!

oh alright man thanks. So if I got an offroad X or H pipe, would I pass inspection and all that? Im not really up to date on regulations.

If you get the offroad version you won't pass. you can always keep the stocker on there, pass inspections and then swap out the mid pype for the offroad one. Or just buy the catted x or h pipe.

Lol-I'm just going with the K memeber and keeping the stock arms. i didn't want a coil over set up for the street. Should still shave around 28lbs off her nose. I have the stock struts and HR springs, but i'm going with adjustable Tokico's in the future.
