i took my 2003 svt cobra mustang in to find out about an odd squeal that it was making. they said I needed to replace 2 of my idler pulleys and the tensioner. the dealership said it was 1 piece and would cost $588 but looking online i have found that i can buy them all seperatly, idler pulleys for about $25 apiece and the tensioner for about $60. my car is having serious problems cause of this but i don't have $600 plus to spend on parts. i am however worried that i am not looking at the right thing. any input would help, thanks
Have you tried listening to what's squealing? I thought an idler was making that noise but after searching through the engine bay it was my Alternator. You can change out the idlers, stock is 90mm, from a few companies. i went with lightningforceperformance.com Same for the tensioner. That whole setup from ford is not cheap as you saw and definitely don't need the whole piece.

Your ABS Module will also tend to humm on ocasion too, mine did yesterday going to work. It's located in the front passenger side to the right of the radiator!
well buddy, I had a little a little sequel up front too, tuned out to be a couple of idlers and the bearing on my tensioner. . . the pulley itself was in great shape so all i did was change out the bearings and away i went, lucky enough we have loads of bearings at work and it was a completely free install, so if they are in good shape, no worn edges i would say take the bearing out and replace them, this will save you loads of coin but just make sure you don't cheap out on the bearing, metal sealers are great with the under hood temps
