just looking for some input on what people really think sound good. i only really know bassani and borla but im now getting a 96 cobra with stock everything other than flowmaster mufflers. What would accomodate this set up nicely to make it sound pretty mean? im thinking of sticking with a bassani x pipe and some high flow cats but i just dont know how it would sound with flowmasters. anyone that is familiar with the 96-98 cobras please let me know what you have run in the past/present and whether or not you have liked it. thanks.
real fond of bthe "flow-master" delta-flow series ... has that raspy tone (formula sound) still mustang bit not obnociously loud like american thunder, borla and some others.
yea i like the raspyness as well but im looking more for a muscle car sound for this car. i am going to look more into the h pipes before i make a decision.
I just installed a Cat-Back magnaflow on my 99 cobra and it sounds great and runs great. And best of all it fit perfectly, with no welding required. I've had it on for over a month and 1000 miles and everything is tight as can be. It looks good from the back all you can see is the bottom of the two pips flowing around to the 3.5" tips. It's completly adjustable when installing, me and my brother did it in about 1.5hrs; cut out the 18pk and we could have done in less then one hour.
Depends on how much you want to spend. I have a custom H-pipe with magnaflow mufflers and my car sounds grrreat. It's nice and quiet at idle and screams when I stand on it everyone knows I just stepped on the gas pedal
i guess my main concern is what is the difference between an H and X pipe? i have always had X pipes and like them very much. what is an advantage with the H pipe?
Well the X-pipe is suppose to "scavenge" the exhaust gases a bit better and build up more power on the low end compared to the H-pipe, because the exhaust gases crossover eachother. Hence the X design. But on the classis H - pipe, both banks pretty much flow their own direction, with a paralell pipe in the middle that does'nt really let each bank combine the two gases together like the X.
But in my personal preference, I just love the classic H-Pipe sound compared to the X. The X is actually more of a European thing, very raspy & high pitched compared to the smooth low rumble of the H.
I have Magnaflow catted X pipe and MagnaPac catback, love the sound and I could actually feel the difference in power especially around 3500 rpm and up. A little loud in the cabin, but this is our sunny day only fun car.
