Default Anti-theft or Fuel Cutoff?

Hi, I'm working on a 97 Cobra that is my friend's and has been sitting for a while now. Months ago I replaced the fuel pump, and it started right up, and I drove it around no problem. It now needs to be sold, and the vehicle will not start. The fob has new batteries in it and does work, as I verified that this past weekend. A shot of starting fluid will allow the vehicle to fire up, but then dies right away. When the vehicle is being cranked.... the theft light flashes. Please help so my roomate can sell this and he can pay off his bills.

I can save you the time, sell it to me and don't worry about making it driveable

j-tan.... thanks for a response. the inertia switch plunger/button is in fact down. I get the 'theft' light on the dash flashing when i go to start the thing. And on another note, good recommendation with the royal purple for the other guy. I run that stuff through my g20t and was still good at 15k miles in. The best oil there is, period. Mobil 1 is nothing but Rockefeller marketing money at work and not proven to stand up to independent lab tests like Amsoil, Royal Purple, or even Valvoline Synthetic.
