Default suggestion on standard trans oil?

i need to change the tranny oil in my 98 cobra. i bought 2 bottles of royal purple oil for standard transmission. someone told me though that i have to use mercon or something like that? any other oil can damage my trannmission? can someone help me? and how many quarts do i need? thanks for the help

I put redline in my trans I don't remember the type I think it was automatic trans fluid It takes 6.6 pints with is a little less than 4 quarts. hope that helps you

do not use royal purple
use gm syncro mesh hands down the best stuff
If you cal tremec that is the same they will tell you 3.3 quarts

I agree not a fan of RP, go Amsoil,Syncromesh,or just a quality conventional Mercon like Castrol or Valvoline!
