Default Cooling Fan Noise

Hello All!

I encountered a little problem this morning with my 2003 Cobra. After starting the car for my morning commute and turning on my AC, I noticed a noise coming from under the hood..Pretty obviously it sounds like the cooling fan. The fan is making a clicking noise like maybe the blades are hitting something..The noise is not terribly loud, but noticeable..I turned off the AC. After a little while the noise stops. The noise does not occur after I restart the car and do not turn on the AC. This is a sudden problem, and I drove the car yesterday with no sounds or problems..Everything else is in great shape..Is there a chance there could be a rock/paper/road debree stuck and corrupting the fan blades? I am at work now but plan to check at lunch for visible intruders....Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

The shaft may be bad on the fan. If it only uses one fan its wierd that you only hear it when the a/c is on and dont hear it when the cooling fan comes on to help cool the car down. If its just a noise when the a/c comes on i would suspect something going on with the compressor.

Thank you Mustang Pat..I should tell you that my morning commute to work is only about 10 minutes of backroads..no traffic. So, I don't think the fan ever kicked on to cool the motor.

After work let it run untill you see the cooling fan come on. That fan should have two different speeds a low speed and high speed. The a/c will use the high speed and if the car gets warm enough it will too. You can also unplug the coolant temp sensor to make the fan come on without waiting for it to heat up before the fan comes on. Should give you some idea if the fan is bad or if its the a/c compressor. Good luck and welcome to the site its good to have you.
