Default 1994 Mustang cobra idle issues

My car was idling rough. I'm not sure how to explain it. It was bouncing, or revving. It even causes it to die out sometimes while idling. I was told to replace the idle air intake control valve. When I changed it the new one caused it to idle over 2k, with the idle all the way down. I had the part numbers checked when I bought it at Autozone, and it came up that this is the right one. I had to put the old one back on for now until I figure this out. Any ideas?

Do you have a K&N filter? If you over oil the K&N if will pull oil onto your MAF sensor. Napa makes a spray that cleans it without melting the filiment. Just a thought, maybe dumb but if it works....not so dumb.

So it idles over 2K rpms and stays there? Could be a vacuum leak. Being a 94, a vacuum hose would have rotted and causing the leak. You can get some carb cleaner and spray it in certan spots and if you hear the engine sound change, it could be in that area. (just don't spray on the headers)

The thing is that I have the old one on and it idles at around 800 like its supposed to. The new one causes it to run over 2k. since it run correctly with the original one im pretty sure it not a leak or anything of the sort. I think the replacement part may be incorrect, or defective, but i dont have the reciept to return it and I don't want to go drop another 80 bucks on the same part if it just does the same thing. It seems to run correctly other than causing the high idle. The guts of the parts are a little different, but the part numbers cross check as it being the correct replacement at the auto parts store.

Take the number with you to Pull Apart. Should be able to get one cheap to test your theory.

sounds more like the throttle body or cable has an issue
