I RECENTLY BOUGHT A 98 COBRA FROM A 52 YEAR OLD MAN....THE CAR HAS BEEN BABIED AND GARAGED....COMPLETELY STOCK, ALL THE WAY. WITH ONLY 60,000 MILES.................FOR SOME REASON I FEEL THE CAR LAGGIN' (NOT RUNNING COMPLETELY RIGHT). THE CAR DOES NOT HAVE A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON.... SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR, I HAVE DONE ONLY NGK SPARK PLUGS. WHEN I PUNCH ON THE GAS PEDAL, I FEEL THE POWER BUT THEN IT LAGS A LITTLE. IM THINKING IT MIGHT HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE SPARK...........(FOR SOME REASON)............I AM THINKING ABOUT GETTING THE MSD COIL PACK..... PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ANY IDEAS THAT MIGHT HELP ME OUT??? JUST POST IT UP .....THANKS.

Welcome to AFM! First, the lag that you feel could be caused by a number of different things... the DOCH Cobras require premium octane fuel! Make sure your gas tank is full of only premium fuel (I would say at least 91+ octane) Also, if your car has been garaged for some time the gas could go bad or have sediments in the gas tank. These sediments would then get clogged in the fuel filter causing a loss in performance. The fuel filter should be replaced about every 20,000 miles. It is very easy to replace too! Now, you say it might be a problem with spark... I have a 1996 Cobra that I purchased 2 years ago and I noticed it had MSD coil packs. The owner before me installed them and I don't know of any problems with the stock coil packs. I don't know why he replaced them. Anyways, that is all I can think of at the moment. I will reply with more info if I can think of something. Hope this helped!
Thank u ........i've read another post and it sounds like it might be a fuel related problem.....or something to do with the maf.....some guy said he had the same symptoms and he recharged the air filter and cleaned out the maf and the car felt way better....... Im gonna see what going on tomorrow....im gonna clean the maf and recharge the filter and see what that does.....i will keep u guys posted..

Once you recharge your filter you will need to clean your maf again in a week or two (the oil from the recharge + dust/dirt in the air can clog it up again). Also, you should run the OEM plugs, make sure they are gapped correctly.
Well, its been a week and i only got some things done to the car......i was going to clean the air filter, but then i saw that the filter was the white paper filter.. So i decided to not clean it because it looked clean. Then i cleaned the maf, and got good results. The car felt better than it did, way better. But it feels that its not that far from its stock full potential....i hope its the fuel filter...im gonna attemp to change that tommorow..........another thing is...................when i changed my spark plugs, i got the iridium ngk plugs. I put them on the car without gapping them......i think they come at .57.....would that be playing a big factor???
I ran those iridium plugs right out of the box for years with no issues, the wires probably need replacing, get them on Ebay or you will pay alot at a retail counter... I gotta tell you that the car may just need to get warmed up and really run...find a deserted stretch of road and really stand on it a few times, old guy may have it never taken it above 3K RPMS and it is carbon choked, also clean the throttle body, it may be a little gummed up...good luck, they are great cars.
Side note: I have the MSD coil packs, they definitely help mid engine torque and are a good investment.
